Dealer put in new differential that was updated to not whine and so far it works. Very quite now! Hope this is the end of the problem.

Glad to hear that they finally got it fixed for you. It is a shame that they gave you the run-around for so long about it.

I know the axles or the center section were a bad casting or something. Glad to see it is working out.

These Aviators are amazing, the perfect balance of handling, power, luxury, and truck-like carrying and durability. Hope yours will finally be as trouble-free as my family's 2004 model. smile.gif

I went to my Dealer and "asked" for the new differential. No questions. They put it in and it works. No discerable whine. Good.
It is sad that a luxury car owner 'has to' go to the dealer and ask them to fix a known problem and one that I have complained to them many times about. They should be calling me 'if' they want my repeat business. Hardly the service I expected.

I currently have the same problem and the local dealer here in Pensacola Florida is still telling me that there is no fix.

If at all possible I would like to get a copy/scan of anyone's service reciept that had this problem fixed showing exactally what was done. Just so I can put it in someone's face here locally and show them that there is actually a fix.

Thanks for the help.

Flyfisher,

If no one has contacted you yet, I would print out these two links and show them to your service rep. If the rep isn't very receptive, talk to their manager.

Hello aviators owners just found this site and I can see I'm not alone.
My aviator have been in shop around 10+ times and is going back. The rear end has been replaced twice and steering sector once
( making noise in steering column)
Rear end is still whinning and will go back today I'm getting a loner and thet can keep it till they fix it!!!!
Also have an attorney working on thr lemon law.
Every owner of the 03 aviator has a rear end problem, its not suppose to whine like that. this thing is a LEMON!!!!!!!
