Are the 78 and 79 Continental COupe ( not mark) the same. I am considering buying a parts car from out-of-state.
Thank you

No BIG changes. Only color choices and the 460cid V8 was no longer available.

Yes, according to my Catalog, the 1979 was "largely a carryover."

There are a few hundred words describing the Collector's Series model, then this:

"Continental for 1979 came with only the 6.6-liter V8, selectshift automatic, and 2.47:1 rear axle. Interiors showed expanded use of woodtone appliques on the insturment panel, which added a fuel warning light to replace the former washer fluid light. A new electronic AM/FM stereo radio had digital frequency display."

Sure , Here is a photo of our "long term" project car. You might have to register to see it. Takes a minute. Dan

Note: I did find that some of the interior trim pieces are different for 79 . Such as the plastic dash trim around the clock radio and ac control. On the 78 the fake wood was on the bottom . For 79 it's reversed. I am awaiting photos of the parts car before I make the drive. 26 years of salt air and sun have taken a toll on most all the interior... and I really want to replace the blue leather six way seats.
Any enclosed coupe or town coupe should have seats in better shape. And I can always use the engine parts.

Is the 351m/400CID 6.6L engine in my 78 the same as the '79 400?

Yup, same block. The 1979 models might have had EEC-I electronics, can't remember. It isn't much more complicated than the 1978 system, and I bet 90% of the parts interchange.

BTW, nice car! smile.gif
