Recently, I have been looking for a car to commute back and forth to school and to travel in. Unfortunately, every car I have looked at or have almost bought has been a disaster.

Then this morning, I was looking out my window, and saw my '87 Continental Givenchy. It only has 63,000 miles and I haven't driven it in four months. I have tried to sell it, but NO ONE wants it The car has everything I want in a commuter car:

1. Four doors
2. Luxury
3. Decent styling (in my eyes, at least)

Except for one thing... I really want a four cylinder car for gas mileage. A thought then occured to me -- Why not throw out the 5.0L and put in a 2.3L turbo motor? I would gain 50 horsepower over the stock 150 and would get great gas mileage. I also have tons of parts laying around, so it wouldn't be too impossible. I'd also get use out of the car, for once.

Has anyone ever attempted this? It is even doable? I was thinking that since the Conti is a Fox it would be possible.

It's easy to put something smaller in a bigger hole. smile.gif Mating the trans to the 4-banger would be the problem, or you could transplant the new engine and its manual transmission (5-speed?) to the car, and then have a custom driveshaft made up. And then there's the wiring.

An overworked 4-banger running premium fuel isn't gonna help you any. Not to mention the noise, and the $$$ involved in the conversion.

Get a Diesel Continental if this is a big concern. ;)
