Hi All

As some of you probably know I have bought a 79 Continental Town Car that will soon be making its way to the U.K.

When it arrives I will need to convert the lighting to Eurospec and need to know some bulb wattages.

Could someone tell me:

1 How many stop light bulbs are fitted and the wattage.

2 How many front turn signal bulbs are fitted and the wattage

3 The wattage and quantity of front and rear side marker bulbs fitted.

4 The wattage of the back up lights

Regards

Dereck

Dereck, I know these cars fairly well, and since I have a '78 Mark V, its a safe bet that what I know can easily be translated to the 4 dr models.

Sorry but I do not know the wattages of these. I do know that the front turns are the same ones used on my Dad's 1996 BMW 750iL: something that shocked me.

1. Front turns are a single bulb per side

2. Rear tail/brake lights are two bulbs per side. dual filiment.

3. Side markers are small bulbs like what you might find in interior cabin lights (mounted above the cornering light and in the rear moulding)

I have the 1974-75 Ford shop manual, which is essentially the same thing as the 1979 Shop manual when it comes to the Lincoln Continental. Tell me if you need anything that I can look up for you.

I will look in the books tomorrow if I get an opportunity.
For the most part I think they will be listed as candlepower, but with the brainpower we have in here someone here possibly convert it to watts.
Unless the cramming gets to them it sounds as if many of the University students we have in here are so burnt out that they too could be measured in candlepower.

;)
This is meant as a joke; please if you took it any other way don’t get your panties in a bunch.

Dereck, whatever you find about the upgraded bulbs, please tell me. This might be something cool to do cosmetically when our 1978 Mark V's custom engine is done. They are basically the same car, except yours has 2 more doors.

What does Europe offer in the way of better headlights for those round sealed beam units?

1157 lamp is 26.88 watts on the bright and 8.26 in the low.

1156 is 26.88 watts

194 is 3.78 watts

Thanks Pro and Steve

That's a great help I can start preparing for the big day when it arrives at Southampton Docks.

As for the headlights that is the easy part I can upgrade to a headlamp unit using a 100/80 watt H4 halogen bulb, do you have H4 bulbs? (dual filament, with a three tab fitting).

Many regards

Dereck
