My original post got deleted, so I'll try again. Anyway, I have a 93 Continental 3.8, and I was looking for some free HP. I removed the stock airbox and snorkel to the fender. I then bought a 45 deg, 3" ID pvc elbow, and a 20" straight 3" ID pvc piece. I had an oval K&N filter, about 5" deep, which I installed from the bottom using the existing fenderwell hole. Attach the elbow to the filter, the straight piece to the elbow and to the rubber bellows off of the massair, and that's it. The stock setup isn't bad, but it necks down to about a 1" hole for intake noise. You may have to shift your battery side a little to clear the tube, real easy.
Looks like it helped performance: Before and after using my Vericom computer:
0 to 60:
before/after
8.44 7.95
1/4 mile
before/after
16.31@87 16.10@89
The Vericom is about 4mph optimistic, and a tenth or two pessimistic compared to the actual strip(speaking from experience.)
Anyway, a cheap and easy mod. On another note, these cars are surprisingly quick for a 3.8 in a bigger car. I think it's the short gearing, torquey motor, and the duals help. I beat a V8 Explorer the other day and he wasn't too happy!

That sounds great. Perhaps you should consider submitting a Tech article that includes pictures (!) for people like me who are more visually oriented smile.gif

Hi, I'm back. I'll try to email a pic to anybody interested. I haven't been succesful posting pics in the past...I don't know how to downsize them. The car is bone stock, 99000 miles, other than the intake. It's a well taken care of car. As far as a Superchip goes, here's something I might try. Advancing the base timing using the distributor, just like on a 5.0 Stang. It should work, and costs nothing. I can
t find the timing pointer on it right now, but I am going to play around with it. Base timing is 10deg. btdc. Here's another thing I'm trying. The Continental massair meter is the exact same one as the stock 5.0 Mustang meter. So I put my 73mm C&L in using the 19lb tube, and it runs perfect, I just haven't tested it yet on the Vericom, but I will soon.

If you wish, email me the pics and I can make it into a TECH article along with your write up, giving you credit, of course.
That MAF trick is really cool! :D

I tried sending the pics but my batteries are low, so I'm charging them and will have them to you soon! It would also be real easy to use a longer cone type filter instead of an oval. You would just have to attach a 90deg elbow to the 45deg elbow, and have it pointed downward. Mines kind of wedged in there, but it fits, and is nice and high for safety(water and winter) purposes. I also had to pop out 2 of the plastic inner fender liner rivets when installing, but they go back in real easy.

Come on now, Lets see some of those pics!!
I have the same engine & may consider the same thing & I get her built back up.
How much HP would you think she gained?
I will agree with you though, these 3.8 are real snappy motors in such a large car stock. I was rather surprised on my cars performance this past Summer when I pulled a 1975 Mustang II 300 miles home on a tow dolly. There were times I forgot that the Mustang was back there & frighten myself when I looked in ther mirror to see if trying to doggy style my Conti.
