Hi Katmandu!

The 3.8 liter 'Taurus' V6s started with the 1988 Continental ended with the 1994.

Then it got the 4.6L 32 valve V8 in 1995. It was used up until 2002, when the Continental was temporarly discontinued (still discontinued. smile.gif).

The 4.6 32 valve got a boost in output somewhere between 1995 and 1998... not sure, but it was at least 20 HP...

Are you getting one? They seem to be great reliable cars!

Enjoy summer! smile.gif

Oh, by the way, I ckecked and the 15 HP boost (now it's at 275! smile.gif) should've came in 1999.

In the 1998+ models (newest body style before it was discontinued) didn't have a plastic cover over the intake manifold, so you got to see the aluminum 'tubes'.

Hope that helps!

By the way, anyone know if seats from other Ford products (like Crown Victorias) fit modern Lincolns like the Continental and Town Car? I'm a vegetarian (fun smile.gif) and "can't" sit in leather seats, but that's what all newer Lincolns have... any ideas?

Thanks! smile.gif

What attributed to the 15HP increase for the 99-02s ??

Thank for the jokes! smile.gif

I think it had something to do with new knock or 'ping' sensors... the 99 and up models could run on 'less than premium' gas without pinging. So I'm guessing they also programmed the computer so that the spark is advanced more if the fuel allows, which would get more power. However, the 98 and older models would've have been able to advance the timing correctly without imput from the 'new and better' sensors.

So if I get a 2000 Continental then I can just swap the seats with Crown Victoria seats, without cutting and welding? smile.gif

Talk to you later!

Wow. This post was definitely risen from the dead. I don't think Katmandu and 82Continental post here much anymore. But this post definitely has merit for answering the age old question of what Ford did to boost 15hp out of that monster. Truth is, the Intech can handle a lot more power than that but the damn Front wheels do the driving  . And the tranny needs a little more structural integrity as well ;) .

Actually I think that stage is usually called vegan. Since the car wasn't bought new like that from you and the seats are already made whats the point? You should be able to get taurus seats to work but I'm not sure about the seat controls. You may be able to use ones from a sho but as far as cloth it may be hard. You should be able to get manual seats from a taurus though since the conti and taurus are based on the same "chassis" Cv's and tc's are bigger and some have taken sho seats into them but they are a bit smaller than the cv's came with and I believe require some fabbing of the mounting.
