All you Mark VIII guys, this is what you want if you want to go aftermarket. I have already gotten a few compliments on the install. I'll post some pics of the components in the factory holes, but this is certainly cooler.
There is a Kenwood MP3 player and Kenwood Eq with a little acrylic plate made to tie it all in together. Though I wired the whole thing up and installed everything else, I let a trusted stereo shop cut my dash and build the cage to hold these two things in the dash.
I was planning on something else for the trim, but my guys made the plate to finish it all up, and it looks great. All in all a great way to spend $60 so I can watch the NFL Playoffs instead.
I must say the EQ comes in handy for turning down the subwoofer on certain songs (or turn up when I put Ludacris on ;) ) and the whole thing looks pretty amazing.

So you went with the acrylic anyway,... ;)
Looks good. I've been waiting to see the finished install.

Thanks guys!
Yes SQ, I was planning about the felt, but I was considering cutting/painting some spare sheet acrylic later on to make it better. Of course now that I see the acrylic in place, I am glad that 1) I had someone else do it, and 2) that I didn't use felt!!!
Putting a piece like this one on a Mark V is MUUCH easier. The fake wood trim covers up all the jagged edges. smile.gif

I only have one question.
When will someone come to OKC and do mine?????? ;)

I SOOOOO want to do that in my Mark VII. I have a half-DIN Graphic Equalizer, and a full DIN headunit, which obviously won't fit in the (exceedingly moronic placement BTW) single DIN slot. The EQ is in my glovebox and it sucks to fiddle with. I've read that most people don't mess with their equalizers, but I would really like to because I listen to a lot of music that really isn't mastered to well, that need filling-in during certain songs. It sounds AMAZING with symphonic orchestrals though. I love sound ;). I think I'm going to try to re-do the dash completely from scratch, and develop my own tripminder to interface with my computer to display on the LCD that's going in there. I hate the ugly green LED displays in the car, the green needs to go and be replaced by either deep deep red or nice cool blue. And those orange indicators... All gauges will be replaced by autometer phantom gauges.

Capt.Zilog,
Touchscreen LCD,....mmmm
My tripminder's shot(ofcoarse) and I don't care if it works anyway really so I've been debating doing something similiar. Touchscreen LCD in the tripminder location controlling IR functions.
Oh, and for changing colors, you can go to a shop that sells musical instruments and stage lighting and get colored gels for lighting dirt cheap. You can change most your dash lighting with those.

Yeah, I often get the idea to make a tripminder remote. I always look for a button on my head unit remote to change the tripminder view :D
I HAVE an LCD but the backlight burnt up within 5 minutes of owning it. I was SOOOOOOOOO MAD. I need to find a place around here who makes CCFL tubes for cheap so I can mount that bad oscar back in the car. Oh and I'm just going to buy new gauges, someone broke into my car before I owned it and screwed up the speedometer. It's a shame too because it's a 120mph one.
Do youy think those colorgels will change to color of the LED displays (like the compass, temp, etc)?

Yea, those are the one's I was refering to. They just use clear bulbs behind the colored gels. You have a 90' right? I have my dash all ripped apart right now on my 91', I'll check a few of the light panels to verify whether they'll work or not.

Yeah, I have a 1990. Thanks for looking, I really hate the green color.

Capt.Zilog. I took a look today at the lighting in my LSC. Sorry but I don't think it's something you want to attempt in the Lincoln. I cut the plastic welds off one of the pieces to get a good look to know for certain and even did a scratch test to be sure. If you wanted to change the coloring, you'd have to re-do the lettering also. The only way to remove the old coloring is to loose the labeling. I've done this before in other cars but never in a Lincoln and I don't think it's worth the effort in this car.

I figured
Damnation! Well, I'm gonna redo it all then, everything about this car is right except the nasty green lights.
