I have an 87 mark vii with the older style dash and counsel, do i have to make a custom mounting plate for my cd player to mount it?????

Maybe.
You need to tell us a little more about the stereo. If it is a double-DIN headunit, hell yea you need to do some fabbing. But if it is just a run-o-the mill pioneer, you should be able to finangle the stock brackets to mount up nice. I did it with my pioneer, it worked great. But, like I said, this is not really something you can get a straight answer on without looking at the stereo itself and the stock brackets. Good luck!

I think it's just easier to get the mounting plate adapter from www.crutchfield.com, (http://www.crutchfield.com,) thus guaranteeing it'll just bolt in without any headaches. You can also get an adapter if you have a common ground stereo system and don't feel like changing/rewiring the speakers now.

Nope. Just get 1)the mounting kit Nick mentioned and 2) a CD player with a flush mount kit. That lets you use the Ford trim piece without having the stereo stick out on the older dash.
