Has anyone else noticed the onconsistancies with the stereo harness on the 91 (and perhaps other models') stereo wiring harness? I recently replaced my tape deck with a CD player, and the color-coded harnesses are completely different. I bought the premium sound wiring kit, and ended up having to take it apart and re-do the pinout on it.

Much to my surprize, the large RED wire on the factory side is ground... and contrary to most, if not all, aftermarket stereo color coding, the orange wire on the factory side is for the power antenna, and the blue is illumination. I swear, on my crown vic, all the colors matched on both sides.

Is this just something strange that only has to do with Lincolns or premium sound packages? After a little bit of trial and error, I got everything working correctly, but I was sort of afraid I might hurt something in the process.

Anyone have any problems with the stock premium sound tape player overheating and spitting out tapes? Mine seemed to tolerate about an hour of use before it would reverse the tape a few times then eject it and need cooling down for about 20 minutes.

I think the yellow power wire is the ONLY color that matches aftermarket standards on my 91 LSC. Always doublecheck the pinouts whenever doing any install. Ford's not the only one that uses there own coloring schemes.

LOLOL Fellas, with a ford it makes no difference, ive seen anything from all blue to all blue with different stripes. The ground is red, black with green, blue and yellow. The contstant is red green orange brown and black, ignition the same and etc. No consistancy in ford, only gm. By the way why didnt you buy the harness from best buy or circuit city that just plugs into the factory harness and matches to the aftermarket radio. If you cut, make sure you tape off the wires you dont use, it could cause fire.

Best of lcuk

Heh, Pepsi - I *did* buy the harness that supposedly matches, but it didn't. I had to take it apart and move the pins around accordingly.

Like i accidentally posted in a seperate thread, I've had a Ford LTD, Crown Vic and also a Cutlass Supreme that matched color for color correctly, so this was sort of new to me. I guess I've just been lucky in the past smile.gif
