I am getting plenty of sound from all of the speaker except the subwoofer is not functioning. Does the separate sub amp just blow on these? I looked for a fuse but couldn't find one.

The Sub itself looks fine and will play,When I hook speaker wire straight to the sub itself, so it isn't the sub.

Hi mooseboyd

The usual problem with the subwoofer is the paper cone of the speaker tears and all you get is the occasional dry fart noise from it, if that's your problem you will have to replace it.

The subwoofer amp is connected to the primary amp (both in the trunk). The higher frequencies might work with a torn sub speaker cone. Be sure to look, which requires removing the subwoofer and a piece of cloth over the top of the speaker.

The speaker itself is not cheap from Ford. You have to buy the whole assembly with housing. Try to find an aftermarket speaker, but the mounting holes may be different than standard aftermarket speakers. I had my 92 sub reconed at a specialty shop that normally recones speakers for bands...

Thanks for your replies,it wasn't the sub, but the sub amp is what my problem was, any way I got a Mosfet Mono Amp and put a 6 1/2 Subwoofer in the the original case.

Thanks for trying to help.

You might wanna nix that 6.5 inch sub. Wrong size enclosure causes frequency response problems in subs. That size subwoofer would only be good for midbass. That mosfet amp will limit your output signal capabilities also. An unregulated power supply and a nice 10 might work out better for an economy set up.

I aloso have a 1990 TC. I am totally clueless as to how the premium system works. I currently have a pioneer deh4600 HU and blaupunk 6x8 and 6x9. were those thw wrong choice of speakers? also is it worth buying the interface adapter?

If you're happy with the way it sounds, then no. Personally I really like those Pioneers - at least I liked last year's design.

As for that adapter, I can't seem to figure out what it does. As is, you're sending the sound (amplified by the head unit) through the factory amp to the speakers. In some cases, this creates issues, in some cases it does not. If it sounds OK running through your factory amp, then save yourself the headache of wiring around it. Of course, if that adapter does the job of wiring around the amp (allowing your head unit to connect directly to the speakers) then it may be a worthwhile investment.
