I want to install new rear deck speakers in my Mark VII. The factory 'rubber bands' that hold the rear speakers in place seem to do a good job on those, but they are too loose on the new after-market speakers.
Does anybody have any tips to make the 'rubbers' work on the new speakers? I dont want to modify the car in any way, like drilling holes or anything like that.

Um, I have a few ideas, but that's all they are. Whether they'd work or not I don't know.

First of all, Those rubber band.. things have an "O" shape in the middle of them, and this is what loops around the speaker magnet or whatever. What you could do is loop that thing around the speaker magnets, somehow. I'd have to look at my own to be more descriptive.

The second thing you could do is find some old towels, and fold them up neatly so that they can fit between the speakers and the rubber. This would just be some sort of spacer... but whether they'd grip the speaker, or cause buzzing or what not (doubt it), I don't know.

The third thing you could do is use zip ties. Redneck, but possible.

Four, you could yell, scream, and kick your car until it magically shrinks and fixes itself.

Best of luck, sorry I wasn't much luck..

Can't you pull the deck lid up and put them in through the top? That's what I did in my TC, no problems. You can even screw them down to the metal part. Problem solved, I hope.

You could add a piece of rubber gasket to sit on top of the speaker and take up the slack. You could also shorten the rubber mount strap by relocating the connections.

If all else fails, just drill. Its worth it. smile.gif

Yeah, I was just trying to keep the easy-to-use rubber strap thing working. I'm a pretty big guy(280 lbs), and I have had a broken back, so contorting myself to lay down inside the trunk area is not really the most appealing option for me.
Oh well, I'll figure it out.

This might be the solution that will appeal to your back, Kit. The Mark's speaker grilles are big enough to accomodate most aftermarket speakers this way. ;)
