Okay guys, like I said before, I am getting new front components because one of my woofers blew, so that leaves me with two good Polk EX series tweeters and crossovers that I'd like to put in the back. I have 2-way Polk EX 5x7" woofers in the back already, and Ford/JBL made a provision to mount a tweeter in the same area. I am thinking I could:
1. mount the Polk tweeters back in the stock locations near the back seat
2. wire up the existing Polk 2-way woofers to the woofer output of the crossover, then put the tweeters in like a normal system
Is it a good idea to put a 2-way speaker into the woofer output of a crossover? All the speakers are the same model...would this sound okay?

I'm not sure how that would sound to be honest, Master Post Pizzimp. I imagine the low range of the speakers, bass and such, would sound good, but the higher range of the speakers would sound like monkey crap.
If I were you I'd wire them up to the amp before you got them all mounted and everything. Just for sh*ts 'n giggles. It'll at least give you an idea.

yeah it may be hard to say what would happen. You might get the effect of an imaging tweeter, but you also might get some kind of frequency cancellation with all those inductors and capacitors coming together. Most likely it will be fine, but be prepared for different.
Grab yourself a set of the first years polk MOMO components. Sweet as heck to say the least.

I'll wait for the Moderator's advice, but I'll probably try it anyway. I like ripping apart the JBL 2" cone speakers and putting domed tweeters in their frame...at least it will look cool when you sit back there. smile.gif

I'm sure those component tweeters are much higher quality than the one's in the coax so you might as well use them.
Use the crossovers that came with the speakers wiring it up just like you mentioned up above with the 5 X 7 on the low output and the tweeter on the high.
The frequencies coming out from the crossover should be low enough that the tweeter in the coax won't be getting any signal in it's useable range. Shouldn't be any problem there unless it's a very high sensitvity speaker in comparison to the polk you want to use.
Don't concern yourself with stuff like phasing or cancellation in the back of the vehicle. you want those playing at a much lower volume than the fronts anyway. For me, a nice ambience without any directional cues is preferable.
When I run back speakers, I usally limit certain frequencies that would cause too much spacial directivity which is exactly what happens with cancellation anyway.

That's the main reason I was thinking of the swap. Man, is our Moderator good or what? His post pretty much answered all the questions that I had, but never quite knew how to ask! Damn!

There's something I should throw in here that may pertain to someone else reading this and it's a potential pitfall. When using component speakers, the individual drivers are not always 4 ohm average drivers. As a set they are rated 4 ohms but the individual components could vary. 6 ohm is very common.
In Pro's install that won't matter because he has a dedicated amp running them and I'm sure it could handle a 2-3 ohm Stereo load. Maybe not mono, but almost any amp can run that in stereo. The problem here is if you would try mixing drivers using the power from a Head Unit. Not many HU's can run at 2-3 ohms average, so you'd be likely to be limited in volume trying this on a HU.
DaKat, I'm happy to see you post here, It isn't too often.
