View Full Version : Cassette works but AM/FM doesn't

i have a 91 Town Car Executive series .. i think it has the JBL system because it does have an amp in the trunk .. the cassette player works fine .. but one day the FM just stoped workin, it still tunes to stations but no sound .. the antenna still moves up and down like its suposed to.. if anybody has any possible ideas on why it doesn't work and how to fix it ..please let me know

9 times out of 10 the internal circuitry for the tuner go bad. The stereo needs to be rebuilt or replaced.

The cars have amps even though they are not jbl. Jbl just adds component front speakers, larger amplifier and in newer models a subwoofer.
Do you hear any popping. Do you get anything at full volume. Any static or whining of any kind??

no poping or static the only noise i hear when its on FM is a low poping noise when the turn signals flash

Yeah, that is an internal head unit problem. Start shopping for its replacement, either another Ford one of an aftermarket part. (aftermarket is recommend for older Lincolns that take the small stereos)

well thanks for tryin help anyway guys .. its time for an in dash CD player anyway .. how do i find out wich sound system i have .. i don't have the original paperwork, or the owners manual.. and i have no idea who the original owner is .. and also any recomendations for a brand on the cd player ?
