Will the addition of aftermarket speakers alone make any noticeable improvement to the sound of the stereo?
Mine is the upgraded set-up, but NOT the JBL powered multi-speaker and sub-woofer unit.(even though it says 'JBL Audio' on the rear speaker grills?)
How good are the factory speakers? and what type of speakers are an improvement?

By the way, I like LOUD Rock and Roll!

Speakers and EQ's are the biggest contributors to how a system sounds. You'll get the most value by upgrading those. Will it be an improvement? That's subjective. Do some comparison listening and if you find some that you like how they sound over the factories, then I think you could consider it an improvement.

Just FYI, I don't think any MarkVII ever came with a factory sub. Just the upgraded panel speakers.

For a 12+ year old car, the factor speakers are pretty good. Remember 12+ years ago? Nintendo was the best, and the Commadore64 was kickass. Yea, car audio has advanced, too.

Like SQ said, a good set of speakers should work wonders for you. If you like LOUD, then your stock speakers are probably toast. Replace them with a good set of speakers and you should be able to crank it up as much as you like with the factory stereo. The factory stereo should suffice, as long as you aren't talking about "deafening the neighbors" loud. :D
