View Full Version : Stripes on a Mark?

Just wondering if anyone has actually put stripes on a Mark, or any Lincoln for that matter?
I've been really infatuated with pics of the new Shelby Cobra, and I keep picturing my Mark VII with medium silver paint and silver stripes, or bright silver paint and gunmetal stripes (Shelby GT500E) over a Cougar or Mach 1 scoop'd hood.
Makes me all warm and tingly thinking about it. :D
Just wondering if anyone else has toyed with Shelby stripes.

I would keep the stripes for your Mustang, if it was me. I like the understated looks of the Mark; I don't think the stripes would really accentuate it right. Kind of a "boy racer" type deal.

My concern would be placement on the hood. The contour of the hood really doesn't facilitate two strips, and I don't like the thought of just one strip down the middle. The raised center portion of the hood may not look too good since the strips wouldn't sit flat. But it still might work. Like Jon and I am sure a lot of other people, I like the sleeper that a MarkVII makes. But then again, I don't know how much a set of strips is going to set you out from the crowd. My hood-long emblem doesn't catch the eye of most, so I don't see how strips would be a whole lot more. Then again, strips are not uncommon, unlike my hood. I definately like the two-tone silver idea though.

I saw a car with blacked out window trim and mirrors and a full silver body. The lower portion was painted an ever so slightly darker silver and the body mouldings were body color or shaved. The chrome bumper and grille had yet to be touched but they didn't seem out of place. The car also had a set of nice 17" Cobra wheels.

They'd look pretty retarded on a Lincoln, any Lincoln.
You could do the hood and have the stripes match the buldge that meets the grille, but the roof and rear deck would not really work. Stripes on a Continental kit? uhhhh.... smile.gif
I think stripes on any Foxbody looks pretty stupid, their proportions are just too tall, narrow, upright and "sedan-like" for it to ever mean anything.
You want stripes? Get a '66 Mustang fastback!

That sounds exactly like my silver LSC in the reader's rides. I painted the bottom and the lower (ribbed) molding body color, and it has Cobra R wheels on it, too.

It's no coincidence, Jon, because I was too lazy to look up who's car it was. :D Regardless, that car looks great. I think it's a very unique alternative to the all blacked out SE look.

Thanks for the compliments. It is actually all the same color, it just looks darker on the bottom because my camera isn't the greatest. smile.gif

Here's kinda what I'm thinking for my two primary choices right now as far as color scheme. http://www.sandersonsales.com/EleanorColors/grayblack.gif

What do y'all think? Don't say stripes look stupid on a Lincoln, 'cause I think they'll look halfway decent, assuming I can still mask in a sraight line.

It's your car. IMO, it would have to be a wicked mother to attempt to pull off stripes. As in, "my car will stomp a mudhole in your hiney if you make fun of it" fast. Remember the SAAC Mustangs in 93? They had the shelby stripes on the roof and on the sides, above the moldings? They looked OK with blue on white, white on blue, or gold on black. A friend of mine put some white stripes like that on a red 90 GT, and it looked like complete crap. He ruined a pristine 27K car with that stuff. I am not a fan of stripes anyhow, but I think that has been covered.
On the other hand, if the car was lowered, had a wicked, hitting motor, a killer set of large wheels, and a decent hood scoop, it might pull it off. I think they are kind of froma different styling era though.
That being said, a slammed Mark VII, silver with charcoal stripes, blacked out trim, Boss 429 scoop, hunched down like a Fox Mustang on lowered springs, shaved emblems and deck lid lock, at least a 331 or 347 (preferrably with forced induction, as well) riding on a set of the classic look Halibrands ( about 17 or 18") could pull it off. At least how I have it invisioned.
Or, you could get some vinyl from a sign shop cut to how wide you want the stripes, and see what you think they look like on the car.

I think either silver on silver or black stripes on silver body. But I definately agree that running some vinyl first would be a good way to know for sure if you will like it.

Jon, you catch on quickly. :D
Here's the next year or two's build schedule, barring any major disasters or the world spinning backwards or something...
-finish my wiring crap because the alarm I installed crapped out 3 days after install and now there's wires everywhere until I get the box back in a week.
-get the tan car torn apart and out of my work space
-Install 4.10's in the grey car with a rebuilt TracLok
-move my LX into the garage and get it running. I have all the pieces, just no time with school right now.
-Rebuild one of the 3 5.0L's I have laying around right now with 8:1 compression pistons, Eagle stroker crank and H-beam rods and make me a boost friendly 331, or go all out and buy a 351, but that's outside of my budget.
-get my turbo piping routed and fabbed, including air/air intercooler in that gorgeous space that Lincoln provided behind the nose in front of the radiator
-freshen up the AOD with hardened input shaft, red clutches, a-servo, shift kit or all-out manual valve body, etc
-paint the engine bay with everything still out of it
-throw everything into the car
-get the thing driving with either a chip or twEECer, haven't decided which yet
-then finally paint the car, which I've been prepping piece by piece all this time including removing emblems, filling trim areas around wheel wells, removing most if not all of the car's chrome trim, etc.
Sometime during this period I'll be replacing the wheels and tires with something in the 17"-18" range, either the typical Cobra R's or something more risque like the 18" FRPP wheels, but due to budget concerns probably the Cobra R's.
Anyway, it should move, and look good and sound stock-ish.
Can you tell I'm extremely bored in class today?

FR500 wheels would probably work, I suppose. :D I kinda mapped out the car I would like to build. I left out the T56 and 4.10's though. If you get that built, stripes might be OK ;)
