I had a bizarre incident involving a galvanized trash can which resulted in a small dent in my front passenger door and also trashed the chrome strip.

It didn't break the paint and it's the size of a nickle so I thought I'd use paintless dent removal to take care of the dent (does your shop do that?) but the shocker was when I called the dealer to get a new chrome strip, they told me I had to buy the strip *and* the plastic clading it attaches to!

In essence, I have to replace the lower half of my door to get a new chrome strip! I checked in my '99 Ford manual and it specifically states the strip can be replaced separately. WTF?!?

Can the strip be bought separately or am I foing to have to hit the junk yards? :D

RC,
You do indeed have to get the whole lower cladding to get the chrome strip. One of Ford's better ideas, I guess. Once you get the moolding, the strip will pop right out. You have to be careful not to bend the strip when you remove the molding from the door. It will kink easily. Unfortunately, everyone I knew at Village (Prestige now) is already gone, or I would try to score you a molding to use for the strip.

The paintless dent guys we use are based out of Arlington. They are pretty good. The name is DDS paintless dent removal, and the shop is on south Cooper. I will post the number up tomorrow when I get to work.

Thanks Jon, it's so minor I'll probably let it go for a while, at least until I get over the shock of how the %$*(&*)()%#@$ idiots at ford handle their business. Wonder what other treats are in store for me. :(
