Probably the best Zephyr related article you'll ever read:
http://thetruthaboutcars.com/content/1133623878368494880/index.php

While the 1936 Zephyr helped the brand climb out of the depression, Lincoln's success came at the expense of the brand's premier positioning. No surprise, then, that the Zephyr was eventually canned in 1942 in favor of the similarly-priced, new-to-the-market Mercury, which was derived from a Ford chassis. Rather than carefully cultivating the loyalty of a critical cadre of brand faithful, Ford sold out Lincoln's image to cash in on badge engineering's "easy money".

So according to this person, The TC's and Continentals, and Marks of the past all sucked from like 1970 on??

He didn't say they sucked, that's overly harsh, but he's got a point.

Why does a 1977 Mark V have the same frickin dashboard as a 1974 Thunderbird? And why does everything from a $3000 Mustang II, Torino, Montego, Cougar's dashboard look so much like a $10,000 Mark V?

And that's only one example that I just thought about rght now at work. There are hundreds more.

Parts sharing has killed Lincoln, killing them softly, with Ford parts...killing them softly. smile.gif

All companies change parts with there cars. Except maybe Ferrari, Lamborghini. Even Rolls Royce has a few BMW parts in it. Bentley is the saddest though, now there crappy VW's. I think the Phaeton is a Disgrace. Volkswagen means peoples car, not rich persons car.

Excuse the rant. LOL

The song came in my head while making that rant.

Brandon, Lambo is owned by Audi, most of their switchgear and a good bit of the drivetrain is derived for VW/Audi parts.

That's still no excuse for 70s Lincolns using the same steering wheel as a Mustang II, Torino or Econoline van. See? I came up with another one. smile.gif

Mark LT, need I say more? :(

Did someone say Mark LT, good god. Alright I admit it, I like the Zephyr. It's a lot of car for the money and may help save the "star" but that truck is ridiculous. It's plain outside. The F150 King Ranch has better interior trim. What's more, how dare they put Mark on a truck vehicle? Save it for the IX, and make it a SC430 slayer. You want a Lincoln truck? Get a very vell pampered Blackwood, that's interesting!

I got up close and personal with a 2006 Zephyr, in Black, and I must say, I like it!

Beautiful leather interior, rich dash, beautiful wood trim, and lots of features. I was truly amazed when I saw the sticker price of only $32,000. Wow. Cheaper than a LS!
For an entry level Lincoln, I really like this car. If I were to buy a new car though, I'd still have to go Town Car...they had a Designer and a Sig. Limited on the lot. Wooo hooo

Sorry, I got off track. The Zephyr is beautiful, I'd recommend it to anybody.
