I got to sit in a Mark II just like this one many years ago, it was so breathtaking I just had to post this one up too. Enjoy!

Now that would be a good start for a cool new retro-Lincoln to save the brand. Awesome vehicle. Haven't seen those neat old Continental style deck lids since the Mark VIII went AWOL.

Absolute beauty of an automobile! That gold tone paint really sets the car off.

One question. What is this for?

IIRC, that's for the A/C...not sure why the '56 model needed it and the '57 didn't...never been close enough with a Mark II to ever figure out why.

Since A/C was a new option for many people I suspect this was a rear seat air vent. Look for some slide type lever on the rear door panels.

I sometimes miss the old floor vents that were in the old pickups.

I don't remember ever seeing one of those vents on a Mark II, but I'm no expert. I'd love a gray or black one to go with my future Mark VIIs. The Mark II is an exemplerary example of individual craftsmanship and expense in the era of mass production by a major manufacturer.

From my now less-than-perfect memory, those vents on the rear fenders were FOR the factory AC. A non-AC Mark II without the vents listed for a little over $10K (Rolls Royce price territory then) and the one with factory AC was $1K more.

Correct, but only 1956 models had the scoops. (I think!)

Possibly 1957 was when they figured out that the AC condenser could be mounted in front of the radiator, instead of in the trunk. :)
