Ok, we all know that Dereck's 1979 Continental Town Car CE is pretty darn rare with its Diamond blue paint, but everything else was standard Collector's Edition from there. What we have here is a 1979 Mark V CE with the Diamond blue paint, dark blue top, no opera window...but it has a dark blue leather interior without the buckets.
Is this one of those no-charge bench seat models that I heard about but have never seen before??? Not only is it a bench seat car, its not dark blue or white? The rest of the interior seems to be correct for a Collectors edition. This has gotta be the rarest of the rare!!!

my dad used to own a 68 merc Monterey, in diamond blue... what a sweet color...
Has that blue been in the FoMoCo stable all them years???

I doubt it. :) Odds are that color was reintroduced for the Diamond anniversary of FoMoCo in 1978. They still had some paint left over in 1979 and sprayed a few Tbirds, Marks and Contis with it. ;)

Midnight Blue Kasman II luxury cloth bucket seats and a console were standard, however Twin Comfort Lounge Seats in the Luxury Group Option sew style were also available in a choice of Midnight Blue or White leather. A price reduction was provided for the leather-equipped cars, which did not include the console. Cars with White leather also did not feature the cloth-covered door or quarter trim panels, package tray or garnish moldings. Nor did they have the switches for the rear seat reading lights. Unique paint stripes on the bodyside and hood, as well as Collector's Series script on the rear roof quarters, gave the Collector's Series unique touches.

Hmm, it looks like there were two leather options. The blue leather had the same interior upgrades but the ones with white (different seats, not as cushy) used the stock door/quarter panels without the velour.
This is complicated.

damn, if I ever get independently wealthy, I just might want to get my conti painted diamond blue...
its a kinda light/medium blue now... going to near white would probably look good.
I still remember how people's eyes popped out when they found out the color was actually a blue on my dads Merc. so close to white, that without white next to it you couldn't even really see the blue.

That's not an oil leak, that's an external lubrication system!

I can’t find my 1979 Mark V sales brochure. I don’t think that the seats are midnight blue, they may be crystal blue (tough to tell from the shade of the picture). The best bet would be to e-mail the seller for the color codes on the driver’s door label, and find out if there is a special order number next to the 2 digit DSO number. Maybe he has the original factory window sticker which could explain a lot. The build sheet may specify what the special order is for, if it was a special order.
Delete opera window cars look pretty cool, probably because of how rare they are. I think that the opera window is very functional, because you can see things through the window, as in a passing car that has gotten past the view of the passenger door mirror.
