if ford would advertise the towncar i bet they would sell more.
never ever do i see any advertisements for the towncar. i think if people knew they could get good gas mileage with a big car they would buy it. i dont even see any advertisements for crown vic or grand marquis now either... used too.

I can't believe the Town Car has been criminally neglected (ok, its not a living creature but you know what I mean) for the past 8 years and it still sells within 100 units of the new guy.
Nothing against the Zephyr, but I am still dumbfounded that the TC's days are numbered even with such strong sales.

Wait until the Zephys start to break down and fail. Word of mouth will then hit the showroom and close the gap. It is a new car and people are going to initially jump. After that, well, let see what happens.

Please enlighten us with the factual analysis you have conducted which leads you to that conclusion.

I have a feeling a redesign may be in the works for the TC say on the S80 platform. The amount the TC still sells with all the cheapening the name has endured, i really dont think that could go by the big whigs at dearborn. After all the DTS is still around even though the STS is the flagship.

I just can't believe Town Cars sell so well altogether and the LS has been hard to move. For the money, an LS, a 5 series, or maybe a slightly used luxury car seem like such better deals with more refinement, speed, handling, and gadgets.

Well the LS was initially selling fine, but they aren't marketed very well at all, nor was that bodystyle interesting enough to stand the test of time. The Zephyr may or may not share this fate. Its too early to tell.
Town Cars have stood the test of time and will always sell well. If/when they move to another chassis, they will no longer have such good fortune.

I was reading through a car magazine the other day at my local grocery store and it said that the Town Car will see the end of it's life in 2008. Anyone else hear this?

That's the plan for the Towncar as we know it now. A V-8, RWD, full frame, large car. It will probably be back on the Volvo s80 platform as previously mentioned and be either FWD or AWD with a 4.0L or 4.4L V-8. Can't remember which V-8 I heard it will most likely come with.

It all depends on if they REALLY want to make two versions of it. The plan is for a low and high model off that chassis...and some people mover (read minivan) that will be the Lincoln version of the Ford Fairlane concept.
Lotsa Lincolns on the same chassis. Course they did the same with the Panther in the early 80s and the Foxbody in the mid 80s.

I've seen many on the streets around here, the Zephyr that is. All three versions of the platform seem to be selling well. The Fusion is the most decent looking Ford 4-door to come around lately, to me anyway, they needed that as badly as Lincoln needed a new car, as the Taurus seems mainly relegated to rental fleets now. Does anyone know if the Town Car replacement will actually have a name or will be the letter thing. Being as Town Car was a trim level on the Continental many years ago, perhaps they will resurrect the Continental name. That's heritage if anything at Ford is. Of course the Zephyr is a Lincoln name from waaaayyyy back if one takes the time to look past the late 70's and early 80's Fox-body car of the same name. Well, naysayers, just look at the sales figures and stop picking on the new Lincoln.

Considering how quickly they switched from Aviator to MKX and especially how they made Zephyr a one-year only name, you can bet that the Town Car name will be dead sometime around 2009.

How can they keep the TC around that long when they were supposed to get rid of wixom, and do they expect to keep it around that long without another redesign. I though 06 would be last year.
