Well my son has been back to work for a while now and has finally paid me for the 85. I am going to miss it as it was my daily driver. I invested more money than he paid for it while I was driving it. Say luve.

Anyway he did his first solo oil change today. Only stripped one of the drain plugs. Spins freely and leaks but won't unscrew. I'm sure, well pretty sure, I will be able to pry on it and unscrew it.

Any recommendations on a repair. There are several types on the market. Rubber butt plugs (for lack of a better description), #1 oversize drain plug, and #2 oversize drain plugs with a drain plug in it's center.

Thanxs in advance.

I'd try a standard size plug first. The threads are designed to give before the pan does. Failing that, a #1 oversize but only if neccesary.

Went with the #1 oversize and sawed all my sons wreches in half. :)
So far so good. The #1 oversize has a 3/4 hex head on it. Anybody sell a 3/4 socket for a 1/4 inch drive?

On my Mark VI I tried a #1 oversized, and then a #2, and neither worked.

Jiffylube has a plug, which they gave me for free, after I explained that I did not dare drive the car with the leak. And it was a Lincoln dealer where I had gotten the oil changed.

Had some trouble with the # 1 oversize also. It will tighten down but not seal. I went down to the ford dealer and they donated a new sealing washer. So far so good will see tomorow.

Looks like I will be driving the 85 for while yet. My son took the other car in search of a new washer last night. Decided to do a few other errands while he was out with his two other buddies Larry and Curly. Ran a red light and got T-boned by another car. Well nobody hurt and at least it wasn't the lincoln.

Sorry, I posted the wrong place, it was Valvoline Instant Oil Change that gave me the plug. It cured what I thought was incurable.
