For a while I was planning on plugging a laptop into my stereo through one of those tape deck adapters. Voila, instant DVD player with the entire car as a sound system.

yea the laptop works great...dont need an inverter but I have one anway. If you shrink the screen down some you can rest the laptop on the armrests and face it towards the backseat and chill there. My bro just bought 8" flip down visors for the impala for a backup cam and dvd player. They make em for under $200 in 3 colors and they are universal fit.

In a car, should you not be watching the road...not the TV?
Oh, certainly you meant for the passengers that all of us very soon will not be able to afford to carry around?

My friend had a 6 inch screen and a computer hooked up in his car and to his stock speakers with an aftermarket stereo with inputs. He had DVD, wireless internet, GPS, MP3, and all the other stuff you can put on your computer. It all played on the monitor attached to the dash and all sound came through the speakers. Very cool. He is wanting to get rid of his current car and get a towncar though so he would have more room to stuff all that kind of stuff easily. He had it hooked up in a 2001 Cougar. www.mp3car.com has some similar setups it seems. The site that convinced him to do it had a lot of pics of an install and lots of tech support and I'm not sure if that was the same site or not but is similar.
