When the auto parts store tested the alternator did they take it off the car and do it properly??
Did they do a reading from the alternator when the car was on high revs??

they broguth out this machine and hooked up to the batter first it told them the voltage of everything then they had me torn the engine on and run it around 2000 then up to 3000 i even when up to 3500 for a few

i never seena store take it out of the care to test it only time i know for themt o take it out of the car would be if they hadd to replace it but a parts store dosnt do that the mechanic dose

Most auto parts store rebuilt Lincoln alternators aren't well done, and will fail in a short time. The idiot light coming on usually means the alternator is under producing, and at higher (above cruising) RPM, it could mean the bearings are going out, causing an internal wobble that causes momentary field failure. In any event, don't trust the idiot light; get a cigar lighter plug-in gauge and check it yourself. A healthy alternator will produce in the range of 13.5 to 14.5 volts under just about any running condition. Under 13.2 volts, and you're on battery power. Above 15 volts and the battery is being cooked, with failure (possible explosion) imminent.

at advance auto they have a machine that they place the alternator on and spin it a bunch. But before spending time taking it out of the car for them, put a multimeter or battery guage on it.

Did you check and/or replace the crappy factory battery terminals as in my previous post on this subject?

If not, do so, post haste and see if that solves the problem. Its a $10, one hour fix for a factory problem that is not going to go away and only get worse and could be the source of all of your battery light/alternator problems.

My car had the same symptoms and it was the BATTERY TERMINALS, not the alternator or battery itself!

He means a cigarette lighter plug in voltage meter to minitor the voltage while driving. A multimeter will do the same thing.

One of these for $15 at Wal-Mart:

You can leave it plugged in all the time, if you like.

Don't forget to take the film layer off the voltmeter display, or you'll think the VR is regulating the alternator at 12.0 volts. :)

Did you ever solve this? I seem to be having the exact same problem.
