Hi.

I am new to this forum. New owner of 87 Conti.

There is a desert sand 92 (I think) Continental 4 door in a wrecking yard in Northern CA. Yard is Budget Auto, 2415 Girvan Rd, Redding CA Ph 530-246-1957 www.budgetautoservices.com

Several weeks ago, vehicle was complete. Upholstry on seats torn up. Body was good. Even still had radio and all dash.

By the way I need faux wood rt frt door panel insert for the 87. Or for the whole door trim panel, mine is tan.

Welcome aboard!

There is not many members in CA IIRC and alot of Essex conti's in salvage yards ;) so you probably wont get too many hits on this one.

Yeah but from what you've posted before, I still think your mechanic was overcharging or replacing a lot of parts that weren't necessary.

Kendo I understand your pain but not everyone that has one of these cars is or will be owning a money pit.
I for one can say none of mine have been, I have found many others here in LoL and in the city I live in that are quite happy about ownership of these less sought after automobiles.

My son loves his, two of his classmates own them as dose a mechanic friend here in town and they all are happy with them.

The two I parted with where in fine shape, I just had no room for them.

The problem happened right after you left the shop, that's one example.

I also thought you had a mechanic replace a lot of engine sensors (poor diagnosis) but I can't find that thread so I'll shut up now.

Check your PMs :)

i never had any engine sensors replaced,my frustration lies in the fact that everything with this car is a major project, for example, my sending unit for my gas tank needs to be replaced, the only problem is ,its part of the fuel pump and you have to replace the whole thing, and whats worse is that you have to drop the gas tank to replace it,and the speed sensor, well ,you have to take a motor mount off and jack up the engine a little to replace it., and my a/c compressor, huh,i had to take the power steering pump off to get at it....this is the nicest car i ever owned and the most costly, i think i should have financed a new car or stuck with my chrysler,i dont have the same luck as pro and steve

Common on almost every vehicle with an intank fuel pump.. not lincoln conti specific

my a/c compressor, huh,i had to take the power steering pump off to get at it

again, not unusual, especially in a FWD car, with a V style engine.. hell, even many RWD cars have the same problem...

Waiting to here whats said about the water pump replacement on an Essex Conti... you thought the speed sensor was a biatch???? try a water pump, in the rain, with 3 inch deep water all around you, laying on your back in it to get to the 2 motormounts you need to loosen... oh, did I mention temp outside was only 37 degrees, and had been so for several days so water was nice and cold... I know what people who fall out of boats in the northern oceans and lakes (in winter) feel.... I could NOT breath from the shock to my body... but I did not, and will not blame my Essex Conti for having its 14 year old water pump fail.

basically, its not the 'car' type, but cars in general... sure, some parts can be expensive for the Essex conti, or other lincolns, and some service centers may charge more because its a lincoln (I have seen that before, same job on one car line costs more than its sister that comes off the assembly line right after it and get a different badge on the trunk).

Also, you have to remember, these cars are NOT new...

Your concerns are valid, but most front drive cars that don't have a inline-four have those problems...labor is a PITA.

The car is old, its FWD with a V6. And your transmission and headgaskets are still fine! Some people here actually like these cars, ya know so stop dumping on them all the time. :)
