hey ppl just got some 20" rims on my car....but the guy at the shop told me he had to weigh my factory rims and tires to match the new rims to that weight or as close as possible...anywayz after he looked under my hood he decided to match the weight stating"if u put way heavier rims it will cause alot of loss in horse power"...so i belived it it this true or was this guy just making me look stupid for buying way more expensive rims then i had planned to get???

Heavier than stock is bad for speed and handling. Lighter is always better. Unsprung weight from rims is the enemy, and 20s are stupid-heavy. If you want to make your car fast, put 16s or the stock 15s back on and spend the bling-cash on a better engine/suspension/tires etc instead.

I'm not hatin' on your ride, just stating the facts. :)

yup, that extra weight is a major item to get it spinning and stopping. Lots of inertia to over come both ways.

Another issue with 20s is that the extra weight can lead to a snapped stud. As you take off the lug nuts, eventually, all the weight will be on the last stud and SNAP if you are not careful.

Of course, my rims are lugcentric. Hubcentric rims would not have this issue, and I personally have not had it with my lugcentric rims.

Which 20s did you get? If you mounted them, you probably cannot return them and I may be interested. The Conti is a 5x114.3mm with 20 to 45 mm offset, right?

hmm putting mustang engine in a v6 conti... need more info on what exact mustang engine he's talking about.. all mustang engines are RWD, and different bellhousing pattern from FWD conti.. hes probably on crack

Doesn't the FWD conti use a transaxle? That would make a RWD engine in a FWD application exceedingly tricky, yes?

yuppers, transaxle, transverse mounted engine, the whole FWD shooting match.

The V6 contis have a 5X108mm pattern..

Yup he is on crack.
The rear wheel drive engine has no place on the front of the block for the motor mount.

You can put Mustang guts into a V6 Conti engine block, but I doubt that guy knew that, otherwise he would have told you that.

See the thread at the top about putting a hot Mustang V6 into your Conti.
