Well, then instal yourself a backup alarm! I just got mine done, it's a pretty easy and straight forward install - find a place for the screamer, tap into the power line for the backup lights, run a ground, and you're good to go. Here are some pics:

Alarm itself cost like $15 and is supposedly designed to withstand truck abuse, will see how long it's gonna work.

I don't think you'll upset the neighbors, they should like it, it will give their kids a warning that you're backing up and can't see the little rugrats. :)

Yeah, it is just about impossible to see those little ones behind the car when you are backing up...

Dude why!? That stuff is just so annoying.

http://www.crownvic.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/540567-rant.gif

Just like loud pipes on motorcycles. Whooptedo, a few cylinders deafening my ears! Why isnt it cool for me to just take the exhaust system off my car at the collectors?

Link is fixed now, I moved the section after I posted here and forgot to update.

V8_Dave, if it's annoying to you that means it's doing what it's supposed to - make people notice something is actually going on, pay a little more attention, and therefore not get the right behind me when I'm backing out of a parking spot. By the way the single alarm's 85db of sound are not loud enough in my opinion, so I'm gonna get two more of these and install them towards the ends of the rear facia - it's so easy it's just a crime not to. For the same reason I'll be swapping my horns for something air-powered, being able to make other drivers aware of your presence and give them some extra time to react can only be good - if you aren't the type of asshole who lays on the hron to scare the shit out of some poor pedestrians that is.

Oh, and by the way, I drove my car with only manifolds (no exhaust system behind them whatsoever) for a week, it was so damn loud that when I started my engine in the dorms parking lot my co-workers could hear it across the street and behind a decently thick wall, and the sound waves would make the firewall and the tranny tunnel vibrate so strong you could very well feel it through the foam insulation and the thick carper on top of it. You don't want that - it attracts unnecessary attention from cops, it's bad for your own health (the hearing), and it kills your engine's performance.

Engine noise is fun sometimes, but I dislike electronic noises. I don't have a car alarm, and generally hate them. The backup alarms are especially practical on large vehicles with poor rearward visibility but I don't really see the point of having 3 just to make more noise. I did drive a loud car over the weekend, and while it was kind of fun, it made me glad that my car is not obnoxious and loud like that. The 10 miles or so I drove it was enough for me.

I have a remote starting, trunk popping, proximity sensing, starter disabling, entry detecting, level sensing, hood pinned, battery backed loudest siren available alarm. :p Made by Clifford (DEI) called the Avant Guard 5. I protected my baby. :D

Sounds like the max system....most I've ever used is "the club".
i should consider something better than that though. lol

If you can't see a two ton land yacht backing up at you, then you need to reconsider going out in public. I'm not going to put a little siren on my car in case you don't notice the beast moving in reverse. It's like those stupid strobe lights they have on top of school buses now; like I can't see that giant yellow monstrosity in the road, that little flashing light makes it so much more visible.

Hi Josh, I totally agree with this! However though, We live in a stupid world where people don't look at whats coming at them. And it's a good thing to alert kids with, I don't want all that "noise" as some do. But I still think it's a good idea.

While I agree with you on this, Josh, the strobes are there as part of the GPS tracking system for the school buses. There's plenty of sickos out there just chomping at the bits ... you know what I mean?

very interesting Hizhonor, I just learned something, didn't know the strobes have anything to do with tracking, but makes great sense. I agree, that the way the world is today, anything can happen.

I'm actually more concerned about idiot drivers in parkimg lots, almost got T-boned like that at school on several occasions - I'm backing out of my spot and some idiot doesn't pay attention until he sees that beast of a car right about 5 feet in front of them, then start bitching about me just "jumping out of nowhere" right in their way  If you hear the backup siren you'll most likely think something heavy is moving, and therefore you'll be more carefull and cautions when you drive between the rows of parked vehicles.

Thain, there was a reason for me driving on manifolds only that week - weather was too shitty to install what I have now, plus I needed some extra parts to finish it off. My car gets abnoxiously loud only in the high RPMs, in low range and with the windows closed it's actually decently quiet. And since when I'm on the freeway I usually drive with the 18-wheelers at 65mph having a little louder exhaust doesn't bother me one bit.

Really good spy satellites are used to locate the strobes! :p

Still rammed a school bus with 20 kids on it! Yellow and flashing lights dont mean a thing when your messin with the heater around a curve. :o I've wisened up in the 4yrs since.

Its all good if it works for ya, but like was said here, it is alittle too rednecky for my tastes. It ruins the class of my Lincoln #1. But I dont have a two tone with hood scoop. ;)

Two-tone? Make that 5-tone: sky blue main color (stock), midnight blue vinyl roof (stock), "light Huron blue" (sides and hood edges, can-sprayed), white (hood and header panel), and black (scoop). So yeah, the redneck factor doesn't bug me one bit :D

Hmm, I'm pretty sure that the GPS and strobes are two seperate systems. GPS definately is seperate. It may have to do with some other kind of camera system in the city though. Or it could just be a strobe light to get ppl's attention. :)

lol, and I don't think a little flashing light would have changed that! :p

Back up alarms are a joke, I have a manual switch on my bus and 90% of the time it's turned off. Most people don't listen and if they are in a car, they have a cell phone shoved in their ear and can't hear anyway. I have strobelights on a switch and can turn them on, they work alot better than a backup alarm.
