ok, if your talking about the infamous ford TFI module, its remotely mounted on my 90 and 91. its on the top of the firewall, underneath the plastic part the keeps leaves and crap out of the heater/ac core, on the right hand side. if you still have the plastic 'cover' that covers most of the crap on the firewall, that will have to be removed.

I'd say its a bad coil not the TFI module that you and MTB are talking about. I would have the coil tested first.

TFIs usually go bad and cut out during cruising around 50mph. Usually.

yup pro, that would be my first check too.

was just filling in the location of the TFI.

another possibility is a failed PIP inside the dist, but not as likely as a coil

hmmm, that should be where it is, according to my service manual. Ford in its wisdom, also mounted some TFI's on the dist. I dont know of any 3.8 conti's like that, but its possible. also, my 3.8 cougar is remote mounted as well.

also, if your planning on keeping the car and doing your own work, invest in a set of factory manuals.. you can find em on ebay and from Helm (the original publisher). you cant go wrong with them. Haynes/Chiltons suck for working on these cars, especially when it comes to the lincoln only options (the air suspension, ect).

It the TFI module isn't on the firewall or on the distributor, look for a heat sink like thing at/near the AC condenser in front of the radiator.
