Well i finally decide after dumping quart after quart of transmission fluid into my car that I would take it into a shop to get this problem looked at. The news was not good I was told the front pump seal was bad and that just the seal would be 300 dollers to replace but that usually when this seal goes bad there are other problems at hand and that a new transmission was probably the best solution is this always the case? They quoted me 2000 dollers installed with a 3 year warenty on the transmission and labor. So just asking what do you guys think what's the deal should i just replace the seal (transmission shifts fine fluid is pink and there are no signs of slippage) or should I replace the tranny?
thanks,

A new transmission or a new car is your best long term investment. :(
I like these cars, and yours is GOT to be one of the rarest ones out there. Green interiors are about as common as $2 bills. :)
That said, I'd recommend either a new car or a Jasper transmission. Don't trust local tranny rebuilders, unless they know all the upgrades and fixes, they'll probably make things worse: search around the forums and you'll see people in this situation. $2000 down the tubes and a dead tranny 2 years later.

If it where me I would say change the seal.
I know front wheel drive cars are a booger to work on and changing the seal could end up as needing a new transmission but on the flip side, if the tranny is showing no sign of letting go why drop $2000.
If it where me I'd gamble on the seal being the only thing wrong.
Do you have a lot of miles on the car?
As I read in here often it sounds as if the head gaskets do go out, If I had a pending head gasket change out i would want to save up for that.
A new tranny and then head gaskets would make me sell a car no matter how much I love it.
But then again I do not own a front wheel drive car.

Two good point of view.
I guess this dose not help you resolve your question.
I guess I would go with Pro's suggestion if you have done the head gaskets already, if you have not then I would say Hott Chicks thought is equilly valid.

Well i probably will just replace the seal for now the car has 150,000 miles on as it stands the head gasget was done at 100,000 miles and if it doesn't last long I will just dump the car probably or keep it for a project car and work on it when i get the time or money, I also might just buy a low mileage used tranny with a warrenty. Thanks for the info and the insight

i dont know to much about trans, but i dont see why a bad seal would mean more problems for the trans. anyone know why?
if it was me i would just have the seal done. can you do it yourself?
hott chick .... if you did a new tranny and head gaskets you would have a new car :) I LOVE MY ESSEX :)
