Look out G35, we might have a contender on our hands with AWD and a 3.5L motor. I see it working, your thoughts?
(remember, its called an em kay zee)

Nice idea, but I'd rather see pics before I comment on the car. :)

Really not a bad idea.
Heck, if they'd make an MKZ coupe with the 3.5 and RWD, I wouldn't think twice about buying one. AWD will take some convincing on my part.

I think that the two door would be logical progression on the platform and with a twin turbo 3.5 option like the new Mazdaspeed 6 it could be one of the best performing Lincolns ever made.

Doesn't the MazdaSpeed6 use a turbo 4 banger? Or is that 3.5TT a coming option in the future?

If it had a rear biased AWD system, power, and a redone butt, I might like one, if it can handle. They should target the 3 Series.

The 3.5 is the new model. The current Mazdaspeed6 uses a turboed 3.0 which is lacking a bit compared to it's competitors. Most AWD system are rear drive biased, Subaru learned this in the early AWD rally years when they had serious issues with torque steer being magnified by AWD and a strange binding situation on the first AWD models. The binding was almost like the wheel would fight back to resist turning.
Anyway, with the way the Zephyr handles now and still retains a smooth ride a slightly more sport tuned suspension with a big bad 3.5 TT motor snugged up under the hood would accomplish decent gas MPG while at the same time generating tremendous torque and HP. The only problem that I see is that the Zephyr would become a Mustang killer and I am not sure if Ford wants that in the line up.

There will always be the Mustang faithfull (just like the 350Z). The Lincoln would give another level of choice. I think that this would just bring more folks into the heard.

Well hopefully they will get off their rumps and get things shakin over there. Time is of the essence in the car market.

I saw a Fusion coupe in Motor Trend.. The article stated that it looks like a MKZ is in the future.... I was thinking that a very slight hump in the trunk and maybe even a porthole window would make a nice modern version of the Mark II. Not entirely true to form, but design clues that would echo the past.....
Any chances???
Oh, and I want a hood ornament.....

Not gonna happen. Would look cool, its got potential, but today's Lincoln design management (Peter Horbury) is more set on the 1961 Continental theme, trying to avoid retro and pushing for timeless design.

They can leave the portholes in the past. Unless the car is completely retro, I don't see them working. There's so much they could possibly screw up with this car. I want a 335i/G35 competitor, but at this point, if they offer it with a manual transmission, my jaw would drop. Hope springs eternal, but I've been less than impressed since their abandonment of the LS.

The "Continental" hump is timeless, so much so that it is iconic!! That is why there have been so many aftermarket versions of it for other cars. I think the 61 cheesy grill is as trendy (and dated) as tail fins. Don't get me wrong, my parents had a 63. It is nice, but that was then. The suicide doors and the hump are far more timeless. I don't want much, just a subtle (almost Mark VIII'esk) one......
I'll concede the porthole......

Shhh! Don't tell the folks at Lincoln! They like playing second fiddle to Lexus! ;)

We're more likely third fiddle to everybody right now. I think second fiddle would be a step up. I like the hump when it's blended right with the rest of the car, but I'll concede it for nicer hardware. I do agree the suicide doors and a clean design is timeless. As much as I like the '60s Continental, the grilles never appealed to me much. The rear end was a little square and plain too.

J Mays canned that concept years ago and I'm sure Peter Horbury has zero interest in bringing it back. Bummer too, since it looked good and was based on the now dead Thunderbird.

Looks good!!!! I guess you reinvent it on the two door MKZ chassis. Give it a back seat for more mass appeal. I love the convertible!!!!
I still want the hump. But, I have to complement the hood ornament.
On the other hand, I'm so glad that the fender skirts were left out. That made chaining up a mess...

That car had good elements but didn't look all of a piece. And I would like at least a hint of a hump! But I don't think we'll get one. Currently I'm more concerned about such things as the Zephyr, ahem, MKZ taillights. They look odd. Where did that come from?

Don't bet on the mini-van source. Lincoln has bigger plans for the Zeph tail lights.... Check out the 07 Navi.......

down in moapa valley I saw the and talked to the ford people that were out doing the test drive of the mkz and i looked at them up close and can say they look very cheap, that and dropping the zephyer name and doing the mkz instead is just retarded.

At least those taillights make the Navi's ass look smaller. It always had a fat ass. . .
