When I fill up my conti, I only put 12 gallons or so when the needle is at 1/4. when the needle is almost to E, I fill up 14 gallons. So does the conti really need 4 gallons in reserve since the capacity is 18 gallons?
So how many gallons do you guys fill up and how many miles do you get? I get 300 miles for a full tank

Not sure how many gallons I fill. I usually fill up from 1/4 to full but sometimes I just fill a dollar amount of gas (usually $45). I'm currently at 19mpg because most of my driving is in the city :(

But gas prices don't bother me since the love of my life is always on all fours getting me from point A to B :o

My 95 will, and has, run out of gas after 17 gals used, so it has an 18 gal tank, with 17 useable gallons. I ran out of gas once trying to push the limit so I know the calcs are accurate. Fuel light warning comes on with about 3 gals useable remaining, guage shows empty with about 2 useable remaing, so my fillups are usually around 15 to 16 gals. I average 20 to 22 MPG with mixed city/highway driving so I usually go 300 to 350 betwen fillups, all verified by the trip odometer, computer, and actual mileage calcs. BTW, I always use premium and run sea foam in the fuel about every two to four months. I have 105K and still am running the original plugs and wires, but I change the PCV valved every 40K, its a cheap part and I just changed the fuel filter for the first time at 102K. Castrol 5-30 oil change every 3K to 4K too.

the Most I have filled in the conti has been 14.2 gallons. so Mine might be off by one gallon. You think running it out of gas completly will make it more accurate?

No, I don't recomend running out of gas, I did it by accident when I first got the car and was attempting to figure out at what point the fuel warning light came on. When it came on the first time, I stopped and filled it up and it took 16 gals, I (foolishly) thought I had 2 useable gallons left, so I let it run about 30 miles past the fuel warning light and ran out of gas and (luckily) rolled into the service station I was heading to. It took 17 gals at that time.

I guess you could put a gallon or two in a can, take it with you and go till you run out, if you really want to know. Set the trip odometer when the fuel warning light comes on and then check it when you run out, reset, fuel with exactly one gallon, fill and note how many gals it takes.

If you've been digging from the bottom you may want to change your fuel filter after.:)

I have parked on the hill and have not been able to start it after and it wasnt even low before that so watch it b/c these tanks arent designed for hills I guess.

I never put more than 10-14 gallons in anyway and that is all without the low fuel light on.

Yea I keep up with all my cars with the fuel filter and stuff and I don't really need to worry about hills down here in Florida.

My 2001 has a 20 gallon fuel tank. When it is completely full of gas, it reads about 435 miles until empty (calculating average MPG based on previous driving) And that is pretty much right on the money!

I average 24 mpg, and at 70 mph the car gets 28-30 mpg.

It is not a good idea to let the tank get really low (past the fuel warning light) or to run out of gas. It's hard on the engine, fuel injectors, and especially the fuel pump. Plus... it sucks dirt and sediment into the system when it runs dry like that.

A new fuel pump is $400, plus labor.

One of my biggest beefs with my 95 is the size of the fuel tank. I am getting about 21 mpg in about 50/50 mixed driving. I fill around 1/4 on the guage and with my commute/errands I seem to fill at least twice a week. An 18 gal tank (apparently 17 usable) is ok for maybe a 6 cylinder, but I wish they had put a 22 gal tank in when the made the 95 a V8.

I get 21 MPG too with 50/50 mixed driving. My Town Car seems to give the most miles, 444 miles(all highway gas mileage) for a fuel tank that holds 19 gallons
