I installed a superchips tuner on my 2001 continental with 44k and all is well and good except when i am coasting downhill at slow speeds the transmission hunts between 1st & 2nd. does anyone here had the same experiance? any fixes? I am kinda suspecting possibly the throttle position sensor may not be telling the trans I am not on the gas. or possibly vehicle speed sensor? but i am just guessing here. otherwise the car drives great.

Hi seitnap25,
I have the Superchips 1725 in my 97 and don't have any gear hunting problems. Do you have the same gear hunting problem when you remove the superchips program and put the stock one back on?

Nope, with the stock tune the shifts are glassy smooth. with the superchips tune I feel the shifting for sure ;) the best way I can describe the issue is that I feel the clunk of shifting gears about once every 3/4 second going down hill slowly or in slow stop and go traffic. If I am careful with easing on and easing off the gas while going slow the shifting seems to behave properly. While going faster than 20 mph everything is great. maybe its a case of being "too" aware of what my car is up to. My main concern is over-stressing / wearing out the clutches and such. I have had the trans fluid changed about 1,500 miles ago just as good maintenance and is still nice and red..

I think the transmission shift parameters (tranny line pressure) can be adjusted, I would contact superchips and ask them ship you another one with slightly lower pressure.
How many miles are on the transmission? If its over 100k, I'd just live with it, and save up for a Jasper reman unit.

seitnap25,
The first program that Superchips sent me the shifting was very eratic and hard. I complained and sent it back and they modiifed the program and it worked much better. Right now if I accelerate slowy it shifts smooth but the faster I accelerate the harder it shifts. Superchips says it hasn't been able to break the code for the lincoln continental shift pressure modification. You can change the shift rpms but not the firmness of the shift. They claim that a firm shift is good for the transmission because of less slipage. I don't no if that is true though. Right now at WOT on hot pavement I can sometimes get a second gear scratch.

That's awesome! SC is right, faster shifts are better for the transmission, the stock Conti shift patterns are not good for long term transmission life. But most people like slow gear changes, and most people don't keep their cars long enough to notice a problem.
