This is kind of Appearance related, but since it's Mark VII specific, I'll post here.....
I picked up some POR-15 to hit some of the rust spots on the undercarraige, and when I popped the trunk, noticed both sides of the trunk corners were really rusty. I took a screwdriver and dug out as much as possible, and will hit it with the stuff. I know the back window drains through there, but was kind of surprised at how much rust was there. Anybody else have this issue?

Its pretty common, not quite sure why, but its probably a drainage issue on that shapely trunk. Small price to pay for a stylish rump in these days of boxy sedans.

I recently dug the seam sealer out of my upper trunk corners. Lot's of rusty metal came with it, enough that I couldn't just reseal it. It turned into gaping holes. I cut some patches, laid the POR on both sides, glued the patches down with Liquid Nails, then LN'ed back the original big seam sealer patch in the trunk lid area. (A body shop friend turned me on to LN as seam sealer on rusty cars long ago). My trunk is dry as a bone, at least for now. I might even be able to paint over it in a year or so when it dries;).
As hard as it may be to jab holes on your Mark, remove as much rust as you can, then use your imagination.

I did the same thing last night, digging out the sealer, and laying on the POR-15. It was the first time I'd used POR-15 before - - that stuff is amazing!

If it isn't you seal it could be the drains for your sunroof. There are four drains on your sunroof I thought there were only two in the front but found two in the back when I had my headliner and everything else out of my car. The hoses on my back looked all cracked up and I found that they had been leaking under my back seat and into my trunk. I didn't have any rust yet. I patched it up the best I could at the time. Now that I have my air ride all done the next project is to take the sunroof out and weld a blank in. I hate sunroofs there is nothing like a leaky sunroof to destroy a good car and they all leak over time.

When I dug out the rust and factory caulk/sealer crap, a lot of twigs and other junk came out. Then, I took a hose and sprayed hard up towards the window, and more crap came out. Let it dry, then got as much POR-15 in there as I could, without blocking the drain path. I think I'm good to go (don't have a sunroof) for a few more years.
