Had a couple of P0402 messages over the last 2 months. Ran some tests and everything checks out OK. I want to remove the EGR and inspect or replace but I'm non able to loosen the nut on the exhaust tube. Tried hot and cold engine. Tried liquid wrench, vice grips, etc. Not much room to get leverage. Is it safe so simply spray WD-40 or something into it while it's mounted in the event I can't get it off? Trying to avoid paying someone to remove it if I can.

Vice grips on a 6 point nut or bolt? There must be some way to get at it with a ratchet or box wrench if you didnt round it off allready. Then you can always throw a pipe on the end of one of these. There are much better alternatives than liquid wrench as well. Ill see if I can take a look at mine for ideas this afternoon.

I've had this problem on my 95. I eventually brought it to the dealership here they coulden't get it off either. They eventually removed the tube from the other end and still coulden't get it off the valve. I had to buy a new tube and valve but it helped it run a little better. I was able to removed the new valve from the tube with a crescent wrench though with very little problem. I've heard of every person that tried to take off an original EGR valve from the tube never went easy. Some good penetrating oil might help. post it if you get it off.

I appreciate feedback, but does anyone have any feedback on the question I asked regarding cleaning/lubricating the valve in place?

I do not know of any way to Clean or lubricate the valve, generally, when they are stuck they are stuck.
The diaphragm goes bad and that is why they do not work then they stick as a result.
