Get a Town Car, 1997 vehicle cost me $500; a no rust Florida vehicle with 92K miles on it. I think I've spent something like $1000 on it for the 1st 20K miles I've owned it (maint. items mainly). Received over $800 back from Ford for the intake manifold recall. Net total: $200. Air blows cold, takes long road trips just fine, gets 25 MPG on the higway and almost 20MPG city. Styling... well... to each his/her own.

Depends on what your tranny wants.
The 88 Conti takes Dex II for the tranny and type F for the power steering.
98TC wants MerconV for the tranny and Dex II for the power steering.
Both are running Mobil1 synth in the trannys and Dex II in the power steering.
Highly recommended for R12 systems.

This stuff works like a charm and is available in Canada at Parts Source stores, no stupid licence required either.

Ford's spec is Mercon(TM), and it is so close to the Dexron II spec that the fluids are 100% are interchangeble.
The only place you are likey to a trans fluid labeled Mercon only is at your overpriced Ford dealership.

goin off the top of my swiss cheese memory, my 91 uses dex 2... I KNOW its not type F...
btw, dex 3 can replace dex 2 in MOST situations IRC

Of course Ford wouldn't use Dexron (TM) they don't own that trademark, General Motors do.

Branding is a powerful tool to maintain rip-off level profits for auto-makers. Bottom line: DexIII/DexII/Mercon does indeed fit the same specs. Whether you pay more for branding or less for generic is your choice. Choose well.
