Hello everbody, I recently picked up a new to me 01 Cartier w/just under 70k miles and figured I'd introduce myself. The car is in near perfect shape w/every option except a sunroof and has detailed service records. I've been driving a Miata and a big Roadie wagon for a long time and this car is WAY abover either one of those in the comfort and fit/finish department. I decided to sell the Miata (wasn't using it enough) and relegate the Roadie to dog duty. Anyway, I hope to chat w/everyone in the future.

Oh yeah....and I'm only 25!

We just bought a 2001 Cartier. My wife drives it. She is only 23 and 5'2.

Welcome. We have a lot more young owners/drivers than most would realize by looking at how mature most of this site acts. I had people list age quite a while back and the average age was around 27. Since then we have recieved lots of younger members so I would say the average age for members here is around 24 or 25. Best of luck with the car.

BTW, I have done some minor modifications to my Cartier which may interest you...
Stainless pillar posts/rocker panels/fender trim
3" Slashed cut dual exhaust tips
Intake modification (see tech article)
Painted “LINCOLN” script on deck lid gold
Installed gold hood ornament (see tech article)

In my opinion everything works well with our color except the rocker panels…It really doesn’t enhance the look, and almost takes away from it…I’m not going to take them off considering their price but I would not recommend them for our color.

Good Luck

Raptor...very nice car, I glanced at that one as well but decided I'd try for one closer. Ended up getting mine from NC.

AZLincolnMercury....I really like the look of the stainless B pillars, may have to look into those.

Excellent...thanks for the tip AZ. I have noticed that the standard black seems to attract a lot of fingerprints. Are the stainless a bit better in that department? I'm pretty anal about my cars and fingerprints on the windows etc drive me nuts!

Funny you ask so am I ;)
I dont know, I’d say it's probably worse…I always close the door touching the paint so I never get prints.

Oh well, can't have everything can you? One must make sacrifices for excellent aesthetics. :D

They really do...window tint is also on my list. Looks great and should help keep the leather from drying out.

I think I got a prety good deal on the car. The people I bought it from didn't even know it had a CD changer. The impression I got from the salesperson that did the paperwork was that they just wanted it off their lot. But they were nice. I was in and out in 30 minutes. From the looks of it I don't think the back seats were ever sat in. From what I can tell it just needs to be alinged and balanced. Glad I found this site. Now I know about the plastic manifold. Mine looks OK so far.

Welcome to both of you new guys. Aside from fun things like the airbox mods, rear swaybar and hood ornament additions (TECH article) there's little these cars need...but get the intake manifold replaced before it ruins your day.

I need to check through the service records and see if the manifold has already been replaced. If not how much does that generally run?

Pretty easy to SEE the new style manifold, it has an aluminum water crossover just behind the alternator.

DIY - around $250. Dealer $900+ Mechanic - depends upon the neighborhood....

Not a question of "if it will fail" just "when will it fail".

Well I had a chance to take a peek and it looks like I've still got the original plastic manifold. :( I guess I'll have to plan on upgrading that in the near future.

I think my local mechanic charged $400 in labor for the swap, a local shop with low overhead. I bought the part (comes with gaskets and new thermostat) from Autozone for $230 back in December 2005.

Yeah, its a pricey fix, but its gotta be done. :(
