I am preparing to convert from air to coil springs and have been reading the instructions that came with the kit, and I don't understand some of the terminology they are using, for instance,
they say and I quote: " Do not allow the half shaft to move outboard, over extension of the tripod could result in separation of internal parts causing failure of the joint"
What is the half shaft and what is the tripod? I know what a joint is, something you smoke before getting started, right?
many thanks,

You mean to tell me that the CV joint will fall out while replacing the struts!!!!
Well, at least I now know what they are talking about, now what is a tripod??????
By the way what kinda polish do you use on that balck Conti, it shines like new money.
many thanks,

When I replaced the struts I had a hard removing the strut from the spindle and I try to pry it out, I end up removing the lower BJ and axle nut to slide the spindle/knuckle out to get more room.
I used Meguiar Wax and polish.

The tripod is the type of CV joint hiding under the boot on the drive shaft.

Thanks Dave and Bob,
I'm just trying to get a complete understanding of their instructions before I get started, so when I get the Conti up in the air maybe I won't have to leave it there for an extended period of time while
I track dowm answers to some of these questions.
