Low Fuel Warning

1987 Lincoln Continental - Gas gauge reads plenty of gas and is accurate but at 1/2 tank the tripminder starts warning low fuel. Any ideas?

Remove the speaker. Under the dash on the drivers side. Man that thing drove me crazy when it randomly said empty fuel. I know the Mark people siad it was a bad ground wire on the drivers side kick panel but i couldnt find it.
