What kind of pump is it?

My cousin is the proud (I think) owner of a new-to-him 87 Conti. I haven't even seen it so forgive this vague question.

He says there is some type of pump on the very bottom of the passenger side of the engine that has frozen up on him -- it took the belt with it.

What the heck is it? He tells me he has identified all the normal bits and baubles but this thing is confusing him.

I have been looking around for a diagram but am only finding them for the 4.6.

Any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like the smog pump. You can either bypass it (shorter belt) or get a new pump for about $60.
