hi guys...
the rear of the car pumps up, but when you turn the car off, it vents down all the way till the tires almost touch the wheel wells.
and i can hear the air coming out. the pump does not run all the time. is this vent problem? is it an easy fix? the air springs in this car are original.

Check for leaks.
Do a search for leaks in the conti forum and you will see many posts about how to track down a leak and you will find much useful information on the matter.

yea, check for leaks, also does that compressor run more than a few seconds when you start it?? if so, sure sign of a leak.

Original bags? They are gonna be cracked at the bases...
Man, you have some seriously bad luck with this car...was it all original when you got it?

Im not sure if there is a fix for the air bags but your struts are gonna have to be taken out one way or the other. I had the same thing just over a month ago. Good luck!

well the compressor runs only to pump it back up again. my guess after thinkning about it is that it pumps the bag up past the leak and holds it there, but when it vents down it exposes the leak and lets it go all the way down.
pro five oh...yes the car was all original when it was given to me free. everthing was original . brakes coolant hoses etc ... i owuldnt say bad luck..well mabey i would :) but it never had any maintance done to it. never even washed.

you guys are 2222222222222 much. i always knew these cars were trouble. but never knew i would hang out with some COOL lincoln owners. i will look for leaks, as i know the age of them is way beyond what it should be. its just that sometimes the back end is all the way to the ground and somettimes its not. and like i said the pump only runs to pump the back up again. it doesnt run all the time.so im hoping its just a vent problem.

well it turned out to be the left rear air spring. sometimes it wouild pump up passed the crack , but then when it would vent down is when the leak would open up. we pumped it up manually passing the leak a little more and then uplugged the solenoid. thought that that way it wouldnt vent down and the air would stay in. it worked , but not for long. not sure what im going do yet. def not going to go to the coils. i can get rebuilt from american air for $150 each. talk to ya guys later

not sure of the milage on them, but the car only has 44k... they are NOT the originals, they have been replaced, about 2 or 3 yrs ago.. the guy I got it from didnt remember for sure, and couldnt find the paperwork. I do believe them to be ford parts too. I have snagged a rear and put it on my 91, and it looked like it came out of a box new...
