On the right side, interior of the trunk, there's a good-sized plastic "cover" over the inlet hose to the fuel (gasoline) tank.
Mine is literally cracked - badly. The problem? When I gas her up, fumes move into the trunk and into the interior.
Don't worry - there's no leak anywhere - the fumes come from those which escape the gas station's fuel nozzle when filling the tank.
Recently, I've taken to opening the trunk when filling the tank. Of course, its been temporarily repaired with some handy-dandy duct tape.
My questions to you all:
1. Have you ever replaced this piece of plastic on your 90 MKVII?
2. If so, was it easy, tough or somewhere in-between?
3. Tips/tricks to doing it right?
4. A good source for a replacment?
5. Any better item to replace the original other than another original?
I am a bit surprised Lincoln would put a plastic cover over the gasoline tank inlet - surely, someone must have considered the Lincoln owner who might casually toss their golf bag/clubs into the trunk? It seems one good slap of a fully-loaded golf bag would indeed crack this plastic piece wide open.
Plastic seems so "cheap" for a Lincoln, let alone as a cover to protech the gas tank's fuel inlet hose.
Thanks all :-)
