My lovely 1999 town car signature series

89,000

today was a ok day, didnt go out but i clayed my car if you dont know what that is. It's to get rid of the dirt thats not visible, if you want to see how much dirt you got, get a ziplock bag and then put your hand in the bag, then rub the bag against your paint, and you'll feel the dirt. If you dont that means you know what getting a real detail is right? the clay makes your car look so nice and shiny and in some wax and polish and your good to go crusing.

I sold it for $10,300 with the DVD Navigation...probably should have asked more for it, but it was far from perfect.

I put it up on craigslist in the afternoon and the buyer called that same evening. I was a little shocked.

2004 Signature
40,500 miles

Complete maintenance logs, and expert detailing at least 3x/yr (I HATE conditioning leather). My detailer says that if he was looking for a used car, he would definitely hit me up, because I take such good care of mine.

Original tires. Never had an alignment. Car practically drives itself on the freeway. Handles like a boss. Makes you feel in control of the road. A few door dings (people are so inconsiderate), but nothing major. Cracking/dimpling of left and right top corners of chrome collar around license plate. I've noticed Ford sneaked in a fix for this; every 2004 and prior TC I've looked at on the lot (and I mean EVERY one), has the same problem. Guess they quietly wised up.

Mechanical/Electrical problems: So far, only two.

* Electric lumbar on driver's side went out. Fairly simple part
replacement.

* Lighting Control Module seems contrary. It sometimes doesn't
want to return my dash lights to daytime intensity when the
Autolamp kicks off. Haven't fixed this yet, but will while still under
warranty.

Complaints: Only two as well:

* Front Seats. Pretty much...well...damn uncomfortable. Not
enough butt-padding, and the butt/leg part of the seat is not
long enough to support my 38" inseam legs, causing rather painful
right hip and upper right leg spasms on long trips.

* Weird pedal configuration. Gas pedal is WAY too small, and to
get to the brake, you have to pull your leg back, and slide it to
the left (which aggravates the spasm problem mentioned above).
I would almost put money on the fact that this particular problem
is not a Ford one, but a GOVERNMENT one, brought to you by the
same people that removed the floor dimmer switch. Some
bureaucrat probably thought that distancing the pedals laterally
and diagonally, they would prevent people from pressing the
wrong pedal.

Enough for now. Claudio, enjoy the ride. There really is nothing like it, and probably never will be again in our lifetime.

I dont play baseball, the bat is a financial calculator. I used to have a chainsaw in the trunk, but I had to take it out due a prank I played on a friend. I put a friend in the trunk, and he began to scream like a girl. I opened the trunk and the chainsaw ripped through his pants, and was close to going up his rectum. Now it sits in the garage. I love those late night trips to south Jersey in the Town Car.

In response to the dood questioning the 300M Special, numbers only tell part of the story. Driving it tells the rest.

LOL...Guess I'm not the only one that carries a bat in the trunk. Mine is a one-hander, with the thickness of a regular bat. It's actually a bottle opener from Acapulco, so it's legal.

We sell "Tire Buddies" at the truck stop. Truckers use them to thump the retreads to see if the work is coming lose. It is a baseball bat that is only 20 inches long, and has a steel core wrapped by wood. It has a leather strap that goes around your wrist so you can't drop it. Retails for $14.99 or $19.99.

3. 72,900 miles on the Sig Series, bought Dec '06 for $7500 from local Lincoln Dealer.

4. Thoughts: I had a 1990 Sig Series, loved it. Sold it with 160,000 miles, and a couple years later I saw it for sale again. After I sold that one, I opted for a '96 Impala SS...will never go back to Chevy now. Always wanted another T/C so I bought this one shortly after Christmas. Dad retired from Wixom Assembly back in June (after 40 years) when they announced the layoffs. he loves these cars too, although he's never owned a Lincoln (ironically). Periodically check the site to see what's up.

1990 Cartier, 128,000 miles - needs paint, slight body work, no leaks, never came close to failing a California smog test. Great car and more confortable than the '03.

Had a Mark VIII which I loved but an illegal pulled into my lane and it was totaled. Had a '98 Conti which I hated; got rid of it when I got the '03.

Thanks!

The Chevy is a poorly engineered and slopily built vehicle. I experienced every "known" problem I came across on the Impala SS forums, (windows falling off tracks, defective coolant, heater controls that quit because of known poorly designed internal components, "dash rash", seat tracks that have bad parts that allow the seat to rock back and forth on acceleration & braking, the fading odometer problem, etc) and it got irritating. For so many people to have the exact same same problems with their cars to me is unacceptable. A car should not have so many known problems that "fix kits" are readiliy available!

It squeeks and rattles like a tin can and the interior has way too much plastic.

The only redeeming quality about this car is it's powerful engine...unless another KNOWN defect crops up with the Optispark.

LOL...there you have it. Now that I have repaired all this stuff, I should keep it, huh?

My '51 Merc has 38,454 miles on it...when it was found in a field in Ypsilanti in 1982...miracles do happen....! No miles since...

There are "Gulf" oil change stickers in the door jamb from when it had oil changes in 1969 at 38,000 miles! (10W-30 was used.)

The first Oil Change sticker is illegible, (but there is one that is there that is readable- it's from 1955- 10,344. (10W30. was used.)

I have the original bill of sale from Sesi Lincoln-Mercury (still in business.) The car was sold on my birthdate in 1951. (May 16th...I'm 32.)

Too bad only a 1/4 of the original car will be used from now on... lol...:)

Well, I guess I haven't been here for a while.

I'm James, if you haven't already guessed by my screenname. I live in Mass.

I just sold my '04 Executive Series L with 217,500 miles on it. I added tint, a Sirius receiver, Garmin PDA w/ GPS on the windshield and whitewalls. In general, I hate whitewalls but the Town Car NEEDS them.

I just picked up my '07 Executive Series L last Friday and only have 1300 miles on it. First thing I did was get the new car tinted and had a Venture Shield clear bra installed. Whitewalls this week. And then a $5000 fixed screen Eclipse AVN6610 in dash navigation system with Sirius Traffic, iPod controller, HD radio receiver, back-up camera and headrest monitors. I thought of having a moonroof installed as well, but I don't want to deal with the potential hassles.

I live in my Town Car(almost) so all this stuff makes my life much easier.

black TC L in the middle.

Hi all, name is Keifer. I have a 98 TC just swapped in a 05 seats with the center console (opens on either sides). Still hunting for the back seats. I also have a 93, 94 Ford Explorers both with 4X4 and a 97 Mark VIII sitting for two years now. I am retired and spending my times looking for parts to mess with these vehicles. Have a nice day all!

I'm Tom, with a 2000 Signature, 32500 miles at present. Bought it about a year and a half ago, with 24,000. Traded in by an elderly lady who must've kept it in the garage 23 hours a day -- truly pristine. I think the color may be called Champagne. Cream leather interior.

Only problem so far is a slow window in the front right door (I haven't yet had the courage to try to pull the panel -- advice welcome!), and misting in one headlight encasement (ditto regarding advice).

Looking forward to learning from this excellent forum.

Hello to everyone. I've been over at the MkVIII forum for the past year but now belong here! I traded our '93 MkVIII 3 weeks ago for a '04 Town Car Ultimate which I feel much better in. Here's our list of current vehicles:

2004 Lincoln Town Car Ultimate 52,000 miles (every option except rear seat controls of front seats, etc.) Charcoal Grey w/Med. Lt Stone int.
1996 Ford Explorer XLT 110,000 Willow Green w/ grey leather
1978 Mercury Marquis Brougham 400/2 bbl (green on its way to 2 tone silver)
1976 Mercury Marquis Brougham 460/4 bbl (2 tone cream & gold)
Both the Mercs have 140,000+ & run great
The MkVIII we had was a bit too low and uncomfortable:( for us as we're used to the Marquis size & "upright" seating. We've had the '78 since day one.
Glad to be here!:)
I'll try to post a picture but I am a genuine pc idiot at such things so I may end up with only a link to our photobucket picture(s).

Nice Ultimate.

Color and wheel combination looks great.

Thanks! We were looking at an '03 but it didn't have the chrome wheels nor the white sidewalls. This one just looked better and was better equipped not to mention being $3k less than the '03. I do like this color and love the thin white sidewalls. I'm old enough to remember red lines, blue lines and even my own home made white lettered a few years before the tire companies made 'em. On a luxo American automobile I like the whites but Michelin seems to be the only one making them. We've got Goodyear Regattas on the Marquis' but the stripe is twice the width & too close to the wheel to look really good. I am even thinking about buying another set of the Michelins to "put away" just in case they quit making them too. Thanks again for the compliment. This site is easy to post pics on so once we have her detailed completely I'll post more pics.

Here's a crummy camera phone pic of the first one I did.

I've never tinted a thing in my life before this window... I can take better pics tomorrow with the digital cam. I just sent this one out to everyone who said I couldn't do it or that it would look like sh*t.

And if anyone has advice on how to make the black center columns between the windows metallic (I've seen it done dozens of times and don't know if its the metallic tape or something glued on) I'd love to hear it!

Michelle....not bad at all. I sure give you credit for taking on the challenge. I've seen tons of people try and end up bubble pockets all over their windows OR it starts peeling off after a few days. I sure wouldn't have the guts to even try it.

I assume you're referring to the black pillars? If so, they sell those. It's just a cut-out piece of stainless steel that has 3M tape on the back that you peel off and stick. Takes about 5 mnutes to do all of them.

Well I did that window Friday, and it still is holding strong as of today. I just watched the do-it-yourself video Gila had on youtube and went at it. I've only got 2 done so far, and I may save the back window for a professional, but its been quite rewarding. I just can't get overwhelmed, and I have thrown out large pieces of tint out of sheer frustration, LOL. There are small imperfections upon close inspection, but this isn't a show car. It will serve its purpose, and I thank you...

Now as far as the stainless steel pieces... I'm curious as to where I can find them? Maybe even the wheel well chrome trim? I've done a couple searches, but never come up with anything relevant.

Well you sure did a good job in keeping your cool. Yeah, the back window would definitely be left for a professional. I'm sure it gets complicated because of the size and shape of the glass.

The pillars off of my car I bought on ebay. Make sure you get the stainless steel set and also make sure you get the 6 piece set and not the 4. I paid about $40 or so shipped.;)

I know I posted to this thread last year, maybe not.
Just a 94 opalescent white cartier. 237,000 on the car about 30,000 on the motor. i've had it almost 4 years. when i bought it all it need was the BDA and a new steering box. It was being driven approx 400 miles a week all highway miles. when i bought the car i was still mechanicing and we serviced the car on a regular basis. the people weren't hard up for money when they sold it to me. they could have driven it to a buyer in Albuquerque (240 miles away from here) and got 3000.00 more for it than what they sold it to me for. my buy price, now don't fall over, $500.00! not 5 thousand but 5 hundred. I spent 200.00 on it and just haven't questioned any other stuff i've done to it. like today i replaced the coil packs. things just have a way of deteriorating as time goes on.

Hi again, y'all!

I guess you'd call me a returning member. I joined a few years ago when I had my 1991 Cartier and 1995 Signature. Alas, the '91 is taking an eternal nap, and the '95 went with the ex-wife. *sigh*

After a few years' absence, flirting with other makes, I'm back to Lincoln. Two days ago I purchased a 1-owner 2004 Town Car Ultimate. Why did ever leave the land of Lincoln in the first place?! She's a real sweet ride. Only 87,000 gentle miles, and loaded with options. Heated seats; memory seats; moon roof; motorized trunk; NAV system; adjustable pedals; etc. You name it, she's got it. A huge step up from the Sebring convertible I just came from.

Anyway, here she is. Looking forward to learning a lot from y'all, and enjoying being back to the Forum.

John Smith (no joke)

A very nice 88' Linclon Town Car with the factory Beige color but needs a new paint job and a new vinyl top to get back its new look again.

103,169 miles which isnt bad for a car that old.

Trying my darndest to get rid of this silly rough idle and weird acceleration hesitation! Ill figure it out eventually lol.

Overall if you don't own a Lincoln Towncar, then you never understand the rideability. There is no subsitute;)
