tranny ?

on my 95 conti, I want my transmission to last forever. is it that it WILL die? or just if its mistreated. also what addiitives and/ or coolers would you recommend?

Well every tranny will wear out sooner or later. To slow it down, full synthetic fluid and an external filter. Oh and don't take up drag racing with it. :)

well I understand that it will die sooner or later. but Ive read that the tranny is the weak point of these cars. so I want to see what will make the like last the longest with it.

Synthetic fluid Mobil 1 ATF or similar and an external filter. Do pan filter change and fluid change first with normal fluid and then dump it and replace with Mobil1.

Edit, our 88 Conti with an AXOD(E??) has 121k miles on the original tranny, Mobil1 synth ATF added at 35k miles, not a problem since.

Get an external cooler (big as possible) and change the fluid/filter every 1-2 years and it'll last just about forever.

Yep, if you dont have the external PS/Trans cooler allready then add one. And change the fluid just like I am about to in the '97.

Sure, I know on the '97 there is a long PS fluid/trans fluid cooler down low that you can see through the lower holes on the bumper. It is 3/8 though so if you add another, make sure it is 3/8 and not just 5/16. I was thinkin of adding a second but we dont use this car for long trips much.

I dont know what you mean by an 'internal cooler' though. There is an internal filter and external cooler I know.

yea, oops. I'll take a pic of mine if you dont notice yours under there. I thought they added it in the '97 model year, so it would be an easy upgrade for you.
