Since we first brought the Continental home (was my dad's car first, I'm in the process buying it from them), anytime it's floored and shifts at a high RPM, there is a squeal up front when it shifts. It almost sounds like a belt squealing just for a second, then it goes away when it is in 2nd gear.

A Lincoln dealer said it doesn't like anything out of the ordinary, but I just wanted to double check on here. It only does it when it shifts at a very high RPM and no other noises or problems anywhere else in the car (well, except for a damn squeaking glove box over bumps, but that's a story for another post).

Its the belt, and its pretty common, esp when they get old and glazed. Odds are you need to replace it, put a Goodyear Gatorback belt on and see if it helps.

Which belt?

The serpentine belt on the front of the motor. Well the front of the motor is the side of the motor on a Conti, but you get what I mean. :)

Have fun changing the belt, its kind of a royal pain...i think you have to release the belt tension from under the car.

Mine does the same exact thing. The dealership told me that they couldnt find out what was wrong and that if it does it all the time, then they could fix it, but not to worry about it that it is a common thing.
