AF,
New here. Hope to get some good problems solved.
Recently I installed a new deck in my Lincoln, and ran a long stereo harness from the dash to the trunk. Immidiately after I'm seeing a problem.
The P,R,D,N,1,2 lights do not illuminate, although the dash behind it does.
Any Ideas?
Thank you.

Are you running the factory amps and such? I'm trying to figure out why you needed to run wires to the trunk (aside from the power wire for an aftermarket amp) when a $8 conversion harness plugs the new deck with the old wiring...with no headaches. Thanks for writing and good luck with it. :)

Yeah, I should be able to buy the $8 harness, except after going through three (and a half :)) of them, I found that <1998 Continentals with JBL sound have no wire harness that will fit, unless you run the cable from the amp in the trunk.
Now this might be a related problem, I am not sure.
I just got XM. I am running the audio out, to RCA, to JVC into the source of the deck.
Now when I play XM through the deck, I get a strange high pitch tone. Sure enough when I rev the engine, the tone increases, and when I let the engine site the tone gets lower.

There is a wiring harness that works, I used it for our 2000 Town Car with the same basic stereo system. Lemme get back to you.

Yeah I'm sure there was a wiring harness out there that worked.
The audio works fine now, it's just the illumination thats out.
Not the entire dash, just the gear display.

did it light up before you started messing with it? Maybe a burnt out bulb or a short.

Hey WB --
For your Transmission Indicator problem, make sure the cable that operates the indicator assembly is connected. It may have been disconnected during that wire harness run. I think there's only one light bulb there, so if you see a backlight, the indicator slider may not be moving.
The cable connects to the steering column shift shaft, and slides a window to the Gear Selection. There's not a seperate bulb at each stop :)
On that XM problem, you need a >Ground Loop Isolator (http://images.google.com/images?num=100&hl=en&safe=off&sa=N&resnum=0&q=Ground%20Loop%20Isolator&tab=wi)<. Find one that has the correct connector ends for your application. Their about $15.
