I have noticed that while during acceleation my Continental stumbles.......
I have had diagnostic done at Lincoln, nothing found. I have checked the automatic transmission , nothing ( I was replaced the year before and was still under warranty). The plug wires have been changed along with the spark plugs all to no prevail....

Tell us the year of the car too...actually put it in your signature file so everyone knows who you are. ;)

Get a code scan from an Autozone or something and see the codes for yourself. If you really get nothing then I'd suggest the fuel filter and checking the fuel pressure and the rail on the engine. (you should have 30-40psi with the key on)

When did you change the plug/wires? Did you use OEM parts?

Mine does the same thing. I had them look at it and check for codes with no results. He said he couldnt tell anything, but I drive the damn thing and I know its doing it. I read the checklist and the fuel filter was changed, so I dont know what it might be. Was reading from some other site and could possibly be the coil??

If it was a coil it usually throws an engine code. (on later model Contis with COP ignitions)

Have your fuel pressure checked and your plugs/wires.

Ha, thats the same problem i had with my 95 continental. I changed just about everything. You can search for posts made by me and it will tell you everything. I pretty much had it fixed before the car went lean and I temporarily retired it. Good luck.

Changed Spark plugs , wires, fuel filter, checked pressure on fuel line, everything
No codes are shown, even the Lincoln teck took it for a ride and claimed it was the torque converter. Sent it to a Transmission specialist and the tq converter was ok. Even had the transmission rebuilt ( not because of this ) and it didnt help......

Seem like others have the same problem. I even asked the Lincoln tech if he had experianced this before, but the answer was negative......

Does anyone know where I can get hold of the brown "wood" trim on the driver side door panel?

Thanks

*You mean that thin 1/4" wood strip?

Yes the 1/4" strip that runs the entire lenght ( 24-30" long) of the interior door panel

I would check the ignition module...I think its called the EDIS module. The Mark VIII guys had a similar problem, read here:

Yea mine is falling off the little pegs have snapped. But I plan on just glueing it in. I have no idea where we can ge some more; Ford? Or I bet it is part of the door panel. :(

Sounds expensive!

The engine "coughing" problem is caused by an emissions fault. Only happens at certian RPM ranges when the computer tells the car to rely on the emissions. And the wood strip is part of the door panel as far as ford part numbers go, so you can't buy just that. The panels are also discontinued and before they were they were more than 600 last time I checked. Mine did it on my door so I glued it, did a clean job so you would never even know. And as far as I know there isn't an ignition module on the Continentals.... I dont think.

Thank you for thr info........
The strip on the door got bent, and i ttossed away the strip without thinking..... Will check around at some of the scrap yards in the area and see wht's there...might have to get a used panel ...or do it the old fashion way and buy a strip of teak wood and work it...

I will also check up on you advice regarding the emmission and the EDIS module...
Thanks again guys

not shure if you got this fixed yet but seems like the shop dosnt wana tell you that you might not have compresion in a cylinder or to take it to a shop that didnt replace the motor and ask them to do the computer diagnosis and then ask to see this little computer typ laptop they have the shows the comptresion in all cylinder then if something rong with th emotor take it back and shuv it in there face tell them this is what the other guy found and get them to replace you engine agen
