Well, my car has been running rough at idle and has stalled occasionaly. My fuel Pump has registered at 42 psi static, and 44 at idle. whats the next thing to check. all major tune up items replaced. its an 84 with 96,000 miles.

Scan for engine codes, clean IAC and EVR filter per TECH articles.

Does the 84 CFI have the ERV filter, because all i see is something that is orange on my car that looks like that, no electrical connection though. Ill look into it more tomorrow.

Thanks for the suggestions, I have been hunting this problem for a while.

I am pretty sure you still have the EVR filter and it should be in the same place as the TECH article lists it.

Trace the green plastic vacuum hose from the EGR valve back to what it connects to. The EGR valve is located on the back of the CFI unit. I don't know where exactly the EvR is on a CFI car but its at the other end of that green line.

CFI cars don't have an IAC. They have a dashpot on the side of the CFI unit that kicks the throttle lever up with the AC on. They also have an electric heat choke identical to what a carb has that operates a high idle step.

What condition are your vacuum hoses in? These cars really dislike vacuum leaks, especially to the MAP sensor.

Correct No IAC, and on my car the choke has been disabled, I might reinstall it if i find the parts. I will trace that line back to see where it runs to. defiantly saounds like my problem

I'd also put an OHM meter on the TP sensor and check it out. It may have a dead spot at or near idle.

The MAP sensor vac line is critical too as gadget73 has said. Pull the vacuum line off it and look down the line for a sticky gooey clear resin like gunk. The MAP may be disintegrating on you, clogging the line.......Is the car running rich?

I traced the EGR vacuum line to the solodien on the fender wall. No filter present. I did clean out this orange saucer shaped thing that had 3 vacuum lines connected to it though. I will take off the throttle body and clean out the ERG passages and see if that helps.

No the car is not running rich, When it passed emmisions it was preety high on NOX though. No jelly fluid in the MAP sensor. Ill check the Air charge Temp sensor too.

High NOX means something messed up with the EGR system usually. Might want to pull that throttle body off, then remove the EGR spacer plate that lives under it and get all the carbon chunks out of it, and as much out of the intake manifold passages as you can.

Cleaned the CFI unit as well as the spacer plate, EGR, and new gaskets all around. It runs noticible better. the Air Charge Temp sensor was all carboned off so i cleaned it until i put a new one in this weekend. Also changed my rear diff fluid too. replaced a few vac lines, and adjusted the T.V. cable to compensate for a thicker CFI to spacer gasket. T.P. sensor was changed because I dont trust a 20 year old original part that runs off resistance. Ill take some pics of my Harmonic balancer to see what yall think.

Thanks for the advice, you all keep this car running :)
