Just bought an 87 and plan on resto-modding it. I want to have Chuck's "Hot Rod Lincoln". Body and interior are in immaculate shape and just need touching up. What I'd like to know is if a Mustang auto tranny will go into the chassis and what is involved with the switch if anything. I will also be tuning the engine or transplanting a 302 HO for more performance. I have a friendly mechanic who will be helping on the rough bits.

The Mustang's case is shorter, but the extra length is in the Lincolns' tail shaft. Odds are it is easier just to have the Lincoln AOD rebuilt with a shift kit, looser convertor, etc. That's what I did on my '88 Cougar, loved it.

What he said. You need a Lincoln AOD. They all have the same tailshaft length. Might as well just have your current one overhauled with the high speed governer for the HO swap. HO swap on these cars should be a total piece of cake too.
