Woa, interesting! I would like to see a pic of the car with the symbol from more of a distance though. I cant give a yay or nay right now, but thats ALOT of lincoln Symbols up front. :D Keep the mods up Joe!

Yeah…I am thinking about going back to my plain front vanity plate or removing the hood star. The emblem on the chrome hat is already gone.

I think the emblem needs to be shorter, otherwise its good. Also where did you get a Lincoln hood ornament.

Yea, not bad, sorta like the Conti grill emblem! My personal preference would be that and the chrome vertical plate. :)

That looks like a '91-94 Conti ornament, is it?

Where did the close up pic go? I'd like to see that.

Sorry, didn’t realize I deleted my initial pic. Here’s a different close up.

I got it on eBay for $2.99 and the description didn’t mention any particular model. It came with double sided tape and reminded me of something off a Mark LT or Zephyr.

Ok, that's a good pic. That looks like the tailgate decal on the Mark LT. Looks good!

Where did your black grille ornament go?

kinda a long story:rolleyes:

I replaced my chrome hat ($30 repop on ebay) a few weeks back and of course the old emblem had to break when I attempted to remove it. Turns out the dealer does not sell "just the emblem" so I was quoted $100 for a new hat with logo. Yeah right!...he wanted an additional $20 since the Cartier has a different logo.

Using the old emblem as a template, I shaped part of the center section I removed from the grille to make what you see now.

Gotta use a heat gun when removing those badges. I learned that the hard way too. :(

I liked the idea AZ so I grabbed a gen 1 VIII emblem to see how it would look on my grill. The contour is perfect. And if I knock off the 2 back tabs Im sure I could affix it to the center...or drill. I just put it on temporarly offset. Does it look any good? :D

Dave, looks good to me. It’s something to make it unique, but at the same time appear stock.

Thanks guys! Now I just have to decide if I like it enough to drill or just stick it. Not sure if a strip of the 3M moulding tape will do it for too long, but once I knock those tabs off the back, I wont ever be able to drill. Oh well, guess I should polish my headlights in any event, they look gross ^ there! Go to put the new chrome moulding on too.

Dave, what would it look like if you centered it over top of "Lincoln" on the driver's side of the grill? There, you would be able to use the tabs and not drill.

Kinda like this:

Interesting idea Nailfoot. I think I would like that like that if it was a black emblem or slightly smaller to go hand in hand with the syle and font of the 'lincoln' word emblem. But great idea and thanks for the idea. Because of that I think I am just going to tape this one on in the center so if/when I find a smaller black elmblem I can put it where you have the red one.

Yea, I have some of this great gooey stuff, Ive held emblems on before with it, I guess I will try it on this one! Thanks guys! I will take some more pics shortly after polishing the lights and mounting the emblem.

lol…this doesn’t help:) ….still getting mixed messages.

I guess the better question is does the black grille look better than the stock all chrome?

AZLincolnMercury
October 18th, 2006, 11:10 AM
Okay...please pick a option ;)

#1. keep big star
#2. keep big star lose hood star
#3. go with black and chrome grill (no star)
#4. go back to stock all chrome and never look back

Mr Wiggl3s you're down for #2

Thanks guys I appreciate all the help. I am really not sure about this one…but i guess you never know unless you try…I’m only out $50 either way

Black and chrome grill...#3 all the way!

It is big, but I dont like it empty either. IS there something more medium sized you can put there but still cover up that chrome triangle thing?

I think to cover the entire triangle thing it has to be pretty damn big. I don’t care for the triangle thing either…

#4, but keep the hood ornament.

I like the black Touring Sedan grille, but not with all the other bling you have on that machine! :p

I just thought of something today while working on the Conti, the Conti grill emblem looks like it was made for that triangle piece on the 98-02 Town Car! Take a look at mine in the sig, I can take some dimensions for you if your interested.

#4 man, go back to the way it was. That hood ornament never looked right to me on the 98-02 bodies. They are sleek and sporty; hood ornament spoils it for me.

I like #4. The chrome looks better on your light colored car. The grille emblem looks OK, but it's a little too big and a bit much with the hood ornament. (It kinda looks like a big nose to me!)

Oh yeah, and send me the black grill so I can see how it looks on my car! :)

AZLincolnMercury

I really did go over board with this car.;)

This is how it looked when I purchased it back in Jan.
http://members.cox.net/jmgallagher/craigslist.jpg

Most of my cosmetic modifications are only attached with double sided tape… so it’s relatively easy to go back to stock if desired.

Well, it does seem suiting as I am an Italian. My nose is quite large.

I've been thinking about it and I think you SHOULD leave all of the Lincoln emblems on. It makes your car unique and shows your brand loyality. Who cares what other people think...

Yep, I know my last name is Irish. Father is ¼ Irish ¾ Italian. My mother was born in Castelmezzano Italy and is 100% Italian.
She came from the Martoccia family...ends in a vowel so ha ;)

Yes sir. :)

I do enjoy hearing the various opinions though. Since there is no clear winner, I have decided to keep everything as is or possibly spend $40 and get another stock all chrome grille.

Thanks for all the comments folks...
