there is a difference between the 1997 and 1998 floor mat material on the Marks, the true 1998 part being slightly inferior. Maybe it's the same supplier making those Zephyr mats?

Don't blame the supplier, blame the beancounters running Ford. :)

98 must have been the magic year. My 97 Explorer has a set of thick carpeted mats with stiff heavy duty rubber bottom. My 98 TC on the other hand has a very thin flimsy set.

I bought a set of new factory lincoln floor mats for my town car...they're the thinnest, cheapest pieces of garbage I have ever had for a car.

speaking for the Mark, the 1998 part numbered mats have a lighter grade of carpet, thinner backing and a sewn on edging AND the embroidered script being an iron on piece....lol. 1997 was thicker grade carpet, included a heel pad on the driver's mat, the edge trim was molded in with the rubber backing and the embroidered script was sewn down through the carpet as opposed to being applied on top with hot glue...lol! Mind you, they carry the same part number except for "F7" vs. "F8"
When I bought my black on black '98, it had been stripped of it's mats and I bought a NIB set of OEM mats on ebay before I realized that that last year black interior was different. So, I wound up with a set for both years, noting the difference. Saving both new sets for posterity, though. I bought a custom set from SVPU, they had the exact colors to match the '98 black interior (theirs is charcoal) and the script is nicer on their sets, plus you get the star logo on the rears as well. Whole mess, $100, enjoying them for nearly three years and wearing well.

Any idea who qualifies? Is there a maximum amount of mileage before no longer being eligible?
