I cant get em
The guys are like "I don't want to waste my time if you don't have a definite problem"
So i tell them my MPG is way below what it should be, i say its at 15 and it should be at about 22-25; they just stare at me like I'm crazy.
Ass holes.

you might be better off getting a code reader yourself. most auto parts stores sell ford/lincoln readers for approx $30. i have one i bought but havent used it yet. comes with a little manual to figure out the meaning of the codes and how to use it too. just a possible suggestion!

Whoa, bud! Who you talking about? Autozone? It takes about 2 minutes to read the codes. It's easy.
You need to go to Wal-Mart and get yourself one of those $20 code readers, then you can pull them yourself, whenever you want, as often as you want. You know everyone here has your back on helping you get it fixed. A reader is an essential tool if you are going to keep these old EEC-IV cars. Heck, you don't even need a code reader, just a volt meter and the proper instructions, the location of which have been posted on this message board many, many times. Hang in there! :)

Do you have a heavy foot? 15MPG can be the result of lead foot combined with city driving. Just for a suggestion.. I used to average less than that. Around 13 to 14 MPG according to the computer. I changed out the TPS sensor which helped a tiny bit, and then the EGR sensor which helped out a LOT.
Dereck recommened a very nice code reader. I lost the link though, but I think it has a digital read out.

Isn't EECIV the system you can read with a paperclip?
Anyway, I have never heard of an Autozone NOT doing a free code read. Heck, that's how they sell some fairly expensive sensors...when they tell you what is wrong. Have you tried Advance Auto in your area? I would consider complaining to either the store General Manager, or even the corporate customer service line.
Unless this is an actual company policy for your area, their HQ will be very interested to know this.
